New property - where to hunt? - aerials

Hi guys, my in-laws just bought a 12 acre suburban property just outside of the city limits. I have permission to hunt it but know nothing about it other than they have seen a few deer on it, and that there is a 20 acre no-hunting timbered wildlife refuge adjacent to the west (owned by a school, used as a biology lab). Any thoughts as to where you would set up a bowstand for certain wind directions given these aerial photos? The in-law's property is outlined in red, there is also a small stream and larger stream which I highlighted in blue. The open areas on the property are mowed paths/fields. Thanks!

They are there now man! I'm not the best for advice on stand spots, I had to ask for some help myself. I'm sure someone here will have some good ideas for ya though! :way:
 
Well if it is 12 acres I would put one stand up for each wind direction. Then work on a food plot next year and do some tsi or chainsaw work to create some thick bedding cover if it does not exist already.

If the neighboring property is a refuge, consider making funnels (look up Dbltree's threads on that) and you will funnel them past your stand as they exit the refuge onto your property!

Deer need food, cover and water. Deer are probably eating in the field to the SE of the property then moving back thru the property you have marked to the refuge. Find where the deer are crossing the creek on the east boundry and set up a stands along the best trails. I would avoid setting up right in the creek bed or draw because the wind will swirl or change constantly. Follow the trails up the ridge to the tops then pick your tree. Hunt it a couple times then adjust your stand to best location based on observations. I would food plot in the middle next year. I would also try to hunt the east side of the property because that would essentially make the refuge 25-30 acres in theory. There should be a main trail between open area in middle and creek on east and just south of the point of the middle open area. That is where I would start but nothing beats walking the property and checking the sign. If your not going to hunt it until next year just scout it in February and the trails will look like highways. Then pick your stand locations based on various wind directions. A topo map of the area would also help pinpoint the best spots based on elevation changes. Hope this helps. Good luck.
