New to IA, public land Question DSM area

Hi folks, I recently permanently moved to Iowa (DSM area) and have begun doing my homework for nearby bowhunting areas. I can't afford a lease or a purchase, so it's all public for me at the moment. I'm hoping this will catch the attention of someone with a little knowledge of the Dallas/Polk deer management area. I know that the urban zone 48 require a proficiency test/special application etc. but what about zone 61? It's still within the special boundary but contains the more rural areas such as parts of the Red Rock WMA. Can 61 be hunted with a general license and tags? I'll attach the map as a reference. I am also looking outside of the metro area but weekend trips will be hard to come by. Thanks! I've moved around a few times for school and finding new hunting spots gets less and less fun each time.

Zone 61 can be hunted with a general license and tags. I wouldn't worry about the map you shared unless you are going to participate in the urban hunt though; which I think it's too late to participate in. Use the hunting atlas to see where to hunt and that should clear up most questions. My understanding is that even the state public hunting land in city limits can be hunted with a general archery license; with the exclusion of the firearms seasons. I've never hunted there, so I could be wrong though.

I'm the current chair of the Polk County Deer Task Force so can help you if you are interested in the urban bow hunt. Meyeri is correct on zone 61. You can use a statewide tag. Zone 61 allows the ability to obtain more doe only bow tags if the Polk or Dallas county specific tags sell out. Very few of these sell each year.

For zone 48, you need to pass the bow hunter safety course once, pass a profeciency test each year, and apply in the entity (city, Saylorville, PCCB) where you wish to hunt each year. It is doe only, but several entities offer buck incentive tags. It is not too late to get in. Our last task force meeting was last night and the hunt is ready to go for this year.
Here are the full details. Let me know if you have questions.
