Illinois non-resident archery deer quota, fees raised
February 15, 2008 at 01:38 PM
BY JEFF LAMPE
The Department of Natural Resources has announced on its Web site that the quota and price of non-resident archery deer hunting permits will increase for the 2008-09 hunting season.

The non-resident quota for the upcoming season will be 25,000 permits, up 5,000 from last year. And the price of those permits will increase from $336 to $400 for non-resident hunters. The price of gun tags is also rising for non-residents, from $250 to $300.

The change is somewhat surprising since there has been no public discussion of changes and no comment period for an administrative rule change. Remember the days when changing the archery quota was a subject of discussion?

But times have changed. And some are speculating that even more changes could be coming. If the Department of Natural Resources is forced to fend for itself in Gov. Blagojevich’s upcoming budget, as many expect, it might be time to expect increases in the cost of resident hunting permits and licenses, as well. Stay tuned.

I heard before that Illinois resident fees were going to go up because of budgets but this is really a surprise. DNR must not think there is too much leasing pressure yet.

I just looked into an Illinois tag. I see it is an antlered and antlerless tag for the $400.00. Has it always been? Iam trying to plan my first bow hunt there this fall.

It's always been a combination tag for archery, 2 doe or a doe & a buck. There was a time when nr's could take two archery buck about 8 years ago. Funny that when they didn't have a cap they only sold about 12,000 tags in 2001, since they put the cap on, in 2003 I believe, the demand has gone up & the price more than doubled!
