Man, this crap is really getting old. These guys broke about every law in the book with their "temptation tags". Unfortunately, I have to think similar results will be had with this weekends special doe season.
A big THANKS are in order to the officers who investigated the case. Looks like alot of work went into this one.

Good Job IDNR!!!

I can't understand what is going through these people's minds...

And a few more examples were made. You would think eventually it would stop but it seems some of the folks that come here to hunt think it is like thier own state and can get away with it.

Is this the same idiot that had a hunt on ebay? He stated on it that you don't need be in the drawing for a buck tag.

We Turkey hunt and Bow hunt that area, and you should see the crap that goes on down there. I'm glad to see they got some of them!

Doesn't seem like much of a fine for what they did. This wasn't just a tempted hunter, they were all in on it, came here repeatedly with anterless tags so it seems it happened before and they got away with it. Premeditated- not tempted, and repeated with multiple people in the same group- they knew exactly what they planned to do when they came here. Good work by DNR to catch them, but the fine should have been much higher.

Now BAN them from ever hunting IOWA!!! They had No intention of HUNTING, simply POACHING anything they could get their Hands On!!

I just looked at the regs, and if deer score over 150 fines are $5000. to $10,000. and 80 hours community service or min of $10,000. to $20,000. without comm service. Seems like these fines were a little light or these morons were shooting little deer with rifles and spot lights. Makes you wonder if they were all cousins and uncles and brothers all at once?

This one really hits home. Thursday Nov. 17th I killed a 9 point buck and was heading back to town with it. It was about 4:45. I killed my buck about 3:45 and as I was driving back to town (Woodbine). I see a white Surburban pulled over the side of the road and there was a deer below a hillside. So I pull behind them and see whats up. Because I know this ground and my feet have been in almost every timber around Woodbine. They jump out all 4 of them and come talk to me. They look at my buck and the one guy makes a comment that he killed a 173 inch 8 pointer 1 mile from this spot. O.K. He then says that 2 of them are hunting pheasants and 2 are hunting deer with bow. It's 4:45 and snow on the ground and I'm think why aren't you guys in your tree stands right now. This is prime rut time and they are driving around without a sticth of camo on their body. So we said good by and I'm thinking something isn't right here. Then I find out that Some North Carolina guys got busted 2 days later. The ground they got busted on is in the same section that I hunt on and killed the nine pointer on. I wish I could have helped the DNR with something but nothing I saw or thought would have been good evidence. What a deal.

I measured all the seized deer and none were over 150 B&C so the lesser civil assessment came into play.

As the article stated equipment was seized and condemnation paper work was filed. Among the seized items were all the bows (all high-end Mathew's Solo Cams), 2 Swarovski binoculars, 1 Nikon bino, 2 rangefinders (Leica and Nikon) TC handguns and scopes, numerous rifles (two had Swarovski scopes), Benelli shotguns plus treestands.

So in addition to the fines the lost equipment totals thousands of dollars.

Hillwalker-
I think you were right, there was definately something wrong there. What you saw might not have been evidence but it would have been good info for the CO's to work with and give them somebody to keep an eye out for. I would have grabbed the plate # and made a call. Cant hurt anything.

Make the charges FELONIES!! I go down to Texas in the spring and down there if you shoot from the side of the road it's a FELONY. If you tresspass with a weapon, it's a FELONY. Now wouldn't that make you think a little harder...

It is always nice hearing about folks like that getting nailed. I wish the state could afford to put more CO's out there in the field. I think it is important to always let your local CO know what you are hearing and seeing. They need our help. It also doesn't hurt to just give them a call and tell them thanks for being out there doing a good job. They have a thankless job and they give a lot up in life to do it well.
