I took a 2 hour walk on saturday looking for any buck sign, but didn't see anything but doe dropping and some lager deer tracks. Since I haven't seen any bucks sings yet, I don't know where to put my stands. I want to get them up soon so I don't spoke the deer days before season opens. I remember where deer were bedding, feeding, making rubs and scrapes last year, so should I hang my stands where they were last year, or keeping looking for buck

sign?

Bucks will be (during rut) where does are now. It is pretty green to see much sign right now. Plus the heat wasn't helping much with all the crops in. Harvest comes and colder weather with rut you will be seeing sign. Probably very similar to last year as long as food sources didn't move.

i would think if you know where it all was last year that would be a great starting point for this year, i know things change sometimes, but it seems to me that it takes a few years to really figure a place out like you described, where all the sign usually is. when i put up stands just recently, i didnt even look for any buck sign, i always go into the woods and look for ridges, funnels, bottlenecks that i know the big boys will be cruising once it is the rut. of course an occaisonal rub or two is nice to find, but in the past its been my dads and i experience that when it is rut, sometimes the best sign just doesnt produce as well as a good ridge, or funnel. I think alot of that has to do with nocturnal deer in an area where there is alot of pressure, seems like if we get away from the crowd get on a ridge, and sit tight we see more bucks!! goodluck this year!!

I saw my first rubs of the season on 9/11.I usually hunt funnels or narrow spots between feeding and bedding areas.Get yourself a arial photo of where you hunt, study it,it will lead you to the right spot without stomping all over the timber and possibly spooking that big buck.
