No Safety Harness?

As we approach the start of the archery season I would like to remind all IW members to please use a safety harness when hunting from a tree stand or elevated position.

For those of you that don't have a safety harness please send me a PM or email if you would like one. I have on hand at least a dozen of them perhaps more. These are new safety harnesses that are still in the package; some full body and some half body harnesses.

I will gladly send you a safety harness if you are willing to pay the shipping. I will ship a safety harness to you the least expensive way, it shouldn't cost more than $4.00-$5.50 to get one of them delivered to your door.

This offer is good only while my supply of safety harnesses last. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Have fun hunting this fall and please be safe. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

One of my best friends just fell two weeks ago. He's a veteran hunter who NEVER hunts without a full-body harness. But it was mid-August and he was "just gonna go check some stands." Well Bob convinced himself that a simple "belt" system would do for that ONE night. Then he got up in his stand and it gave way. The belt system failed and he pitched 15 feet.

Bob hit a fence post on his way down (with the side of his face)and he landed on his side, breaking 10 ribs and puncturing a lung. Thankfully he had a cell phone and remained conscious to make a call. The ambulance squad inserted a 1/2" tube in his punctured lung (no anesthetia) to drain the fluid. Without this procedure, docs told him he'd have been dead in two hours. He was airlifted to a hospital and will make a full recovery. Bob knows how lucky he was that day.

I'm just like all you guys; excited about the season, dreaming of the big one, whatever. But please, IW friends, get a quality, full-body harness and use it, every time, no matter what...

If you don't have one, please take Blake up on this wonderful offer!

Everyone should wear a quality harness. No matter HSS, Muddy Outdoors etc. $100 isn't much to spend when it comes to your life. Or take Blake up on his offer.

Ok, I'd say it's about time for me to make the "OOPS!!, Don't forget the Safety Harness" post I said I'd make. Posted a pic before, gimme a minute here, you'll see a picture of a total retard- ME!!!

Great idea and good offer Blake. I fell a couple of years ago...no fun at all. Started investigating how to be safer and ran accross the following site http://www.geocities.com/safetreehunt/index.html. It will give directions on how to make a climbing safe rope. With that you stay attached all the time you are ascending and decending ( that is where 90% of the falls occur). Use it all the time now and now worries. Hope it is worthwile for some other hunters as well. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Update

I just finished sending out two safety harnesses by USPS Parcel Post. The cost of shipping was slightly more than I anticipated. I have changed the shipping estimate in the original post to reflect the actual cost which will be $4.00-$5.50 for shipping.
