Pretty tough hunting with all the cruchy snow. How are you guy's hunting this stuff?I tried to get to a spot I wanted to hunt but stopped short for fear that I would scare evertything out of the area before I got set up.
I guess a guy should get to where you want to hunt early and hope you dont'e scare everything off on the way in.

Yep, this crunchy snow sucks. And for that matter, so does this weather pattern. It has been basicly the same temp and conditions for 8 days now. Everyday looks exactly like the last one. I kind of feel like Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day! We need a major weather change to get the deer moving.

As for the noisy snow, I think you have to get in very early in the AM, and hunt the outskirts in the PM. No way I would try to sneak into a timber in the afternoon with this snow. This is one of the rare times I can remember actually wishing snow would melt!

We have NO snow here in Southwest Iowa. Snow has been gone for over two weeks.

The snow where I'm hunting gets pretty soft by the afternoon. The temps have been hovering around 32 for the last week or so. Still, it is rather noisy. Due to the melting temps, the "snow" has become quite granular which doesn't help with the noise. I'm hoping to slide in to the edge of a timber around 2 pm today and wait it out.

I agree that a cold snap would get the deer moving better. I have a stand that I'm trying to catch deer moving from the timber to the fields. One evening hunt last week, the deer didn't come by until 15 minutes after legal shooting, then a day later at the same stand in the morning, they came by a half hour before shooting. I can't set up any closer to or in the timber due to permission issues. Some cold temps would force them to feed a little more.

I agree Bronc,I had 5 does come out last night when I was on the way out. They are moving really late.We need a change in the weather or a little luck.
