Hey guys, I am a new member to this forum but have viewed it for awhile. I will be coming to Iowa this year with an archery tag. Can't wait! I was originally planning on coming up the 7th thru 13th of November, but work may make me have to come later. The week after Thanksgiving it looks like. My question is what can I expect as far as deer movement is concerned. Will they still be any rut activity or is it over by then. I will be hunting in Appanoose County on private land. There is some winter foodplots planted on the property but no corn or beans. Plenty of corn and beans around the property just not any on myside of the fences.
The plots are Buckforage Oats and clover. Will the deer be hitting those or will they be in the bean and corn fields. Just curious and any help would be great.
Thanks

The rut will be wrapping up but should still be some good activity, bucks looking for one last doe, etc. I hunt a farm with clover, corn, and beans and I choose to hunt the clover 90% of the time when the wind is right, regardless of time of year. It's even an older crappy clover field, overgrown with foxtail. But the deer LOVE it. My point being, you shouldn't have any problem seeing deer. Good luck!

Looks like you will be around for pretty much post rut activity.. You will see deer and you should have a chance at something.

Depending on the weather, If it stays cool like it is now with frost threating the oats and clover may be long gone by the end of November. Deer movement is usually pretty good that week Its a bowhunters last chance before the gun seasons start.

Just as a heads up, are you aware that there is a antler less gun season that will be going on Thanksgiving weekend? Also bow season ends on that Friday because shotgun season opens on Saturday 12-05 so you will only have 5 days to hunt. Not meaning to discourage you but just let you know that things will be kind of stirred up then. Any time in the woods is good it is just that some are much gooder!

That can be the absolute best time to hunt if the weather is decent. Good luck to ya.

Thanks for all the responses. Bowmaker I was not aware of the season the weekend of Thanksgiving. Thanks for the info. Can you still bowhunt during that weekend or is the season closed to archery?

Ya, u can still bow hunt during the November antlerless season. I'm always out during it and it's definitely one of my favorite times of the year. With the number of unbred does greatly decreased the bucks start responding to calling much better than they did the couple weeks prior.

Thanks Nontypical, I just looked at the regulations and the way I was reading it thought I could still bowhunt. There is not gun hunting on this property so maybe Ill be good during that weekend.

I have seen some real monarchs around Thanksgiving. Like I always say, anytime in November is better than no time in November. Best of luck to ya!
