Not a happy camper

I'm not very happy with UPS. I recently sent a restored antler via them and it was damaged enroute. I had taken out extra insurance on this item also.
I repaired the shed again and submitted a claim to UPS for damages. Guess what? My claim was denied! They said that since they were not the ones that packed it, they were not responsible.

They never even offered to pick up the second shiping charge.
I can fight they're findings but we all know how that would end up. Why bother. It would be nice that if I went in and told them I'd never ship with them again they would care. No more than I ship, they'd never notice or care.
I needed to vent, thanks for listening.

Here's a couple pics of the box as I received it. Looks like they kicked it to Illinois.

Looks like the insurance is probably only good for lost items. And even that they probably have an excuse for to cover their butt.

I know your pain.. I have shipped NWTF bronzes thru UPS and they arrived broken and they did not cover them. It happened twice. They said they were not packed up to their requirments. Since then I ship onlt thru The postal service. I had 1 bronze that arrived broke and there was no problem with getting it settled. They just wrote the check.. UPS just looks for excusses why not to pay. Why buy the insurance if its no good anyway...

Thats too bad Shovel. I know how it is. We ship out around 40 or 50 pkgs a day where I work. Any time we have a damaged package its like pulling teeth to get a claim to go your way. Its never their fault, so its a loose -loose situation. Sorry to hear about that. You almost have to build a small plywood crate to keep them from breaking the delicate stuff.

USPS is the only way to ship. I have (knock on wood) never had an issue with anything I have shipped through them. I shipped a bow press last week and it arrived on the east coast in 2 days....it cost a boatload of money but was worth it in the long run. The US Postal Service worker may kill you but at least your item gets to it's destination in one piece.

Good one Ryan!!

.I sometime's wonder if the crew in my town are packing or not, they sure do not seem very happy when I'm there.

Sorry to hear about your package,I would never ship with them again,it's really the only thing you can do to get back at them.I'v never had any problem's with them before but I may think twice about using them for a fragile package.

Rule of thumb: If the item cannot be broken such as chains, hunks of metal, a tire, trailer hitch, etc, UPS is fine. However, if there is the slightest possibilty that your item can be damaged, send it through the USPS. UPS broke 2 bows and 3 fishing poles of mine over the years and it will never happen again. I used to work for them in college, trust me you don't want them handling anything of value.

Shovel, DON"T BACK DOWN!! That's exactly what they want you to do. I run an online business and they have pounded enough of my things. Their first step is to deny everything hoping you will go away. If you persist you will get paid. I've done it many times, it's a pain but worth it.

I've had similar experiences and have to agree that USPS Priority Mail insured is the way to go for most items. Had a couple of bows shipped that way recently (one in a hard case and one if a box) and both came through fine. I've also heard less-than-stellar reports on shipping with DHL. One guy on ArcheryTalk.com posted pics of a bow that he shipped with DHL and when it arrived at it's destination the thing was in pieces with broken cams, limbs, and the whole works. What a mess.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, Jay.

Jay I did get the antler undamaged. I am not real happy with UPS either. My brother works there as a mechanic, but no help. They said since a claim was made on that package that now they can throw it away, now wait a darn minute thays my hunk of bone. it did not belong to the person that sent it, but now they can toss it aside. I was on the phone with them over an hour, what a waste of time. Whats the big deal you make a mistake, stuff happens ,take care of me and do what is promised.I know one thing if they would have tossed it in the trash I would have seen how much their Insurance would cover!
