Not Impressed-Bushnell Trophy Cam

Bought two Bushnell Trophy Cams and put them out this week. Left one in video mode and it sat there and took video clips of nothing for the entire day until it just stopped working. Now the screen wont turn on. The other one took pictures but the shots after dark look grainy/blurry and it doesnt look like the left to right brightness is that great. Lots of pics of deer not that far from the cam that you cant tell what they are. Anyone else have problems like this? Am I expecting to much out of the picture quality because I think these look like crap. I have two old IR moultries that take better pics after dark.

You may have one of the earlier 2010 models with issues, contact the company and see what they will do for you. The 2009 models I have are doing great for me on video mode.

I have had great luck with the 2009 model bushnell cams. Only have one of the new ones and wont be buying anymore. The video and image quality on the old cams is great, the new ones are hit and miss, sometimes they are great and others they suck. I have dealt with bushnell customer service and they are very good. Not sure if they can help you out but they might do something for you.

I think you have one that was built before may 2010. Sposedly a new firmware came out at this time and it solved this exact problem with the crappy flash. Here is a pic I pulled on one after the upgrade that was taken from trail cam pro. I believe they were working with bushnell on the upgrade. I wonder since this pic has the moon phase and temp that it means it is a newer firmware or can you set your cams to add temp and moon?

I have had the same problem...the 2010 BTC's are junk! Bushnell knew when they started shipping them that they had serious problems with the software and did it anyway. I have two and a friend has two and compared to the Scoutguard they are very poor quality (software)

The problem you are having is called a "runaway cam" and you can first try correcting it by turning the sensitivity down to LOW in cold weather. One of mine did the exact same thing but changing the sensitivity corrected it.

The night time pics on 3 of the 4 stink...unless the deer is standing still they are very blurry and that is the flaw in the software. You can go to bushnells web site and check the properties on a pic and then see if there is an update.

Check the BTC info in the Chasing Game forum...lots of very unhappy people many of whom have returned these cams 5 times and still not received a good one. Bushnell does not repair them, they send you a new cam but the odds of getting a junk one are high.

The 2 year warranty is really worthless IMO because some people have waited 4 months to get a cam back and then just receive another junk cam.

Do a search on Ebay and you can buy the Scoutguard 560 for the same money...same cam basically but better software although none of the BTC, Scoutguard or Covert cams have high quality night pics.

I understand due to complaints that Bushnell has gotten better at returning cams when they receive a bad one but beware it may take some time if you need to send it in...;)

I have a 2009 and have had no problems at all. I was getting 2000+pics every 2 weeks and batteries lasted april through Sept and I changed them in case, but they hadn't died yet. Pics are good quality, videos work great...but I have heard (obviously the feedback above shows) a while after I bought mine, the 2010's that came out had issues...

Battery life is awesome and the 09's are great cams...better off to shop for those on ebay then buy a 2010 IMO...;)

Wish I would of known about these issues before I bought. Everyone acted like they are the greatest thing out there. Piece of junk in my opinion. Hopefully I can get my money back.

Interesting reading...I have one Bushnell TC of 2009 vintage and it has worked reliably in the field and taken many, many good pictures for me this year. However, from day 1 it has had a problem with the menu screen not working right, but because I got it many months after I ordered it, it was backordered, I just deal with that. But by the sounds of this thread, I am glad I got it in 2009, and not in 2010.

I am not defending or attacking Bushnell per se, but I do have some work related experience with electronic devices from China and all I can say is that this doesn't surprise me. With the hyper-dynamic overseas sourcing situation these days, the name brand on the front cover has virtually no meaning. "Fill in the blank" name of electronic device might really be made via one company one year, or even month, and then be made in some other factory the next year. Name brands mean almost nothing in many cases when it comes to Chinese sourced electronics.

Let's just say that in the electronics world the emphasis is on low cost and NOT on quality control. Unfortunately, because cheap electronic goods like this are made in huge batches at a time and the lag time between when they are made and when they are actually used here in the US is quite long, there can easily be thousands and thousands of them "out there" before they really come to understand that there is a problem.

Now once a company knows they have a serious, systemic problem, a problem that the solution to which may be expensive enough to severely damage the long term survival of the company, what do you think happens...they go ahead and ship them anyway.

All of that to say this...it sounds like the 2010 Bushnell's are a pig in a poke, but next year that could easily be true of whatever other brand is hot this year. Because no one will think twice before switching the actual manufacturing facility/company if there is a buck to be saved.

Well I have the Scoutguard 560 and it acts just like you guy's BTC. Junk pics at night(blurry) and not so good day pics. I always had homebrews before this one and wish I hadn't even bought it. I wanted to try the Uway black flash and it washes out the night pics also. Can't get the website store to answer emails or the company.

Is it from Boley Media or HCO? They separated over the BTC problems and HCO has had impeccable service. They answer emails promptly and service is fast...Boley however may be another story?

Check your warranty and let me know what it says?
