Monday the 17th is the start of the 2nd half of Bow season-- How do tactics change for this part compared to earlier when you could call them in? Change your tree stand location? Hope for snowfall???
I just put up a new set last weekend in the corner of a picked cornfield near thick cover. With the temps dipping and the rut over they will be hitting the food sources hard, and I hope to be there waiting.
I do have a shot of timber that is right between a picked bean field and a picked corn field- I would assume once snow gets here- IF IT EVER DOES- the corn would be the best place as some would still be above the snow- correct? I am getting just as excited for the start of the 2nd season to start as I was for OCT 1- bring it on!
There is a saying that I believe holds very true in Iowa. "90% of the deer are on 10% of the ground during the late season. Find yourself a piece of that 10% if you can and then hunt it very carefully.

It would be really great to have some snow but I see highs in the lower to mid 20's and lows in the lower teens before Christmas for here in East Cental Iowa. Thats better than last year
Its startling that so many people are seeing Shed Buck already- goodluck to you all this second split of bow/late muzzy- make sure the ones without antlers are the ladies!
up to 10 inches of snow expected! I know they say numbers are down for pheasants- but the last two years I Have gotten my limit on many occasions, only when snow has been down so saturday AM will be a deer hunt with bow, 10AM til afternoon will be bird hunting. Get ready, the good times will be rolling!
