I am reading here about planting oats already,,with clover? Isnt it early for oats? Wont they get tall and youd have to mow em off to keep em edible for Nov? Guess deer would mow em off.
They are used as a nurse crop for the clover. They grow fast yes ! Ideas is to out grow the clover so the deer browse the oats giving the clover a chance to grow . plus helps suppress weeds in the process.
Prep your plot spread fert then approx 70 to 100lbs per acre then lightly till or disk in oats and fert . cultipack seed clover then cultipack again . done pray for rain !!
Ain’t gonna be there in November most likely. Or for long. Few frosts & toast in most cases.
Yes- like above, nurse crop. Be ok for that & ok if deer mow em. This is too early for “plot type oats” but for clover- be fine & again- deer may keep em short. If want nov to dec draw - add winter rye, triticale , winter peas, etc.
