October Musings.......

Seems like we've had all kinds of weather so far in October 2008, hot, cold, calm, windy, dry and down right soggy!

I've spent way to much time in stands for an east wind it seems, but I did enjoy some beauty mornings watching the sun come up.

No better way to sooth ones soul then watching the sun slowly light up the landscape from a tree stand.

Watched the turkeys feeding contentedly most mornings.

I like to spend October filling the freezer with baldies but.... they seemed to thwart my every effort, mocking me by doing anything but walk by my stands! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Bucks now...they were another story!

Dang things...after a while I was like..."shoo"..."go away"!!!

Come back in 3-4 years!! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Button bucks that were close enough to pet...

Measly spikes that grazed around me like cattle

2 1/2 year olds that stood around at 15 yards without a care in the world.

He stayed around so long I videoed him out of boredom!

This one came through the same spot a little later,to dark for my camera but he was kind enough to pose for my trail cam first.

No hurry to leave...

My wife pulled the last package of venison out of the freezer and said..."that's it,if you don't get busy I'm going to have to apply for a HUSH deer"! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I wish I could blame it on lack of deer but according to my IDNR Bowhunter Survey I write on each day I've seen plenty. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

The weather...yeah...that's it and the crops...giessh they're everywhere this year!

They say even an old dog finds a bone every now and then so I put up a new stand and sure enough...she walked right into my trap!

Figures...finally killed something besides time and the batteries were dead in my camera (dang bucks anyhow!)

I suppose, all these years of whacking does from the same stands the survivors have grown wise to me...who knows, but a little change up seemed to fool at least one and not a moment to soon! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

November is just around the corner and I've been pouring over last years TC pics. 95% of daytime mature buck movement was between 11-8/11-22....hmmmm seems like a great time to be in the woods, especially since Nov.13th is the full moon. (pack a lunch...stay all day... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif )

Surely my "luck" with the bucks will continue? Perhaps not but I think of the hunters in other states who would give anything for the bucks I'm able to pass up and I find myself once again, thanking God for my blessings.......... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Great series of pics! Congrats on the doe as well Paul. This is your year for Mr. Big to walk by, I just have a feeling. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
