OFFENSE!! 2 Bills to support!! SF 293 & SF 247 EMAIL IN!!! What a great change!!!!

Good one!! These guys disgust me!!!
1) they got a smaller herd!!!! 15 years are harvest is in HALF!!!! Western 3rd of state has been devasted along with many regions in other parts of state - from ehd. Not to mention habitat loss
2) they can already get depredation tags!!!! Plus 4+ months of hunting season. + financial incentives to enroll ground in walk in hunting. CO’s with standing list of guys wanting to shoot does- that list that never gets demand met.

Hey Farm Bureau!!!!! Why don’t you tell your members about the facts & solutions above?????

KILL ALL THE DEER to reduce $5.2m in claimed corn damage statewide on a $11B annual corn crop. Eliminate all the deer to save $5.2m in crop damage but killing the MINIMUM economic value of whitetail of $180m per year!!! You can’t make this up - it makes no sense.

Forest reserve “pay your fair share” - the tiny sliver spent on saving our forest that will cost us possibly 50x fold in losses & costs if more forest goes (soil, future timber value, pollution costs, loss of habitat that impacts the $180m deer economy, etc). HOW BOUT THIS!?!??! How about we TRADE…. Let’s impose a tax increase on land owners for forest so they pay their fair share AND we add sales tax back to farmers (ME!!!!!) so we pay our fair share!!!! How about it Farm Bureau?
THIS WILL NOT BE POPULAR
But how bout we tax the ag properties like we do residential somewhat closer to market value rather than a % of a %. $500,000 house pays $6000 in taxes, $250,000 40 ag acres pays $850, less than half. Now who isn’t paying their share…..

I knew you’d respond after listening to Prairie Farm the other day

I'd rather get rid of all property taxes. Forcing someone to pay the government a yearly tax so they can keep what they already paid for is criminal. The government should not be able to take something away that you legally purchased.
Spend less, tax less.

How many times you gonna say the same thing. Be a lobbyist, visit the state capitol, we get your position. Horse meet stick.

That is the exact method the communist would love to use to strip the land from red blooded American land owner!!!!

That isn't even a funny bad joke.

Not to mention owning ag land in a different area than you live you get hosed on all of the tax levy votes. A few years ago the school district next to ours wanted a new school. So they had a vote and it passed. Property taxes on farm ground we owned in the district went up a ton, but we were not allowed to vote on it. That is taxation without representation in my eyes. And before anybody says to just buy land closer to home, this land is only 4 miles from home.

I don’t follow this and how it relates to communism?

So are the commies already stealing from the residential landowners?

I’m just responding to the comment of taking a tax break away and some saying it just ain’t right to have the forest exemption yet we give significant break to ag land worth significantly more while letting residential and commercial properties be taxed at higher rates and carrying more burden of paying to run our state and local governments.

Communits believe we should not own anything, let the government provide. Everything equal. Squaller for everyone!

How do you strip the land from the land owner/farmer

Simple..... Raise taxes. Like you mention above. If the tax of land was porpotrional to the tax of housing there would be no possible way to ever profit from the land ie forced to sell.

Scary thought!

Looks like committee approved the new farm unit requirement 21-0 today. However, it’s amended lessening the acreage requirement to 20 ac purchased after 01/11/2027. It appears there’s a grandfather clause in here for current landowners. I don’t quite get the 2027 date but it’s in there.

In the middle of playing the game of Western tag draws and came across an interesting article to put some of this into perspective. Utah is working on a proposal to double NR premium elk tags to $3700+. General statement but not one state I apply in have improved NR draw odds or reduced fees. So with Iowas premium deer tags and the demand for the tags it is not unreasonable to see those prices increase and NR tag numbers decrease. Several articles discuss how legislators in western states have no problem picking on the red headed step children (NR hunters) yet we have Iowa legislators that continue to propose bills to improve NR hunting in Iowa every year ….

$2100 for LE elk, not $3700... still nuts

Iowas deer tags could be $3700 & we would still have a draw & a wait to hunt. Not saying we should or shouldn’t do that but it’s wild to understand how much folks are willing to pony up to hunt a state with better regs & older deer. & anyone waiting to hunt Iowa’s WHITETAIL… they most likely from a state with the exact same animal (in higher supply) & more habitat/area to hunt them. Those same places they come from, hunting the same animal- could pay what?…. $25-50 to hunt the exact same animal that there’s more of & more area. The ONLY or main difference is AGE CLASS. I Spose all this is obvious to most on here & a broken record by me.
I gotta think elk or mule deer could be the same way … you hunt superior states or units for the EXACT SAME ANIMAL but one could be OTC while another could be a 5-20 year wait and double or 5x the cost to draw. Apples to apples- when areas have QUALITY animals of any type- it will always command a premium or be limited by that state. If they don’t- they will be ruined & demand or prices goes back down.
High quality areas will command premium or draw … UNTIL THE DAY the other LOW PRICED, OTC & areas with little demand- IMPROVE THEIR RESOURCE!!!! Regs can do that, improve the quality - in EVERY situation. Very much like “these select lakes have the tightest regs on slots or how many you can take” - those are the best & most desired places to go. Why we don’t make more of what we know is the best systems is mind boggling. It’s obvious. But it’s a fight against human nature & the willingness to change ANYTHING or look past one’s self desires. We need every state in our country to better the resource…. Hunting, fishing, environment…. We can’t just overload the few places that are doing it right. So simple & common sense but that doesn’t mean those ideals prevail in public or politics- or can change overnight. We need to keep fighting for that though… little by little more grasp this & the chances for change grow… & that’s how change for the better happens.

Sorry on the adhd repeat-rants that bobble through my head daily :)

Fair enough on that side. My question is why in the HE77 do we have Iowa elected officials that are continually proposing tag changes to improve NR opportunities when they are clearly hearing that resident success and quality have declined!!!

We on same page 100%!!!!!! The good part…. It’s a tiny amount of legislators asking for this stuff. Even if a guy said “I wish NR’s had more tags!!!!”…. It has almost zero support across all groups & legislators. It won’t pass. Farm Bureau is against more NR tags. Corn & soybean growers association. Clearly the general public. Irrelevant of my opinion or stance- there’s literally almost 0 support.
If we wanna be totally transparent here… which I’m not shy about… there’s some legislators that are not the sharpest tools in the shed. They have no clue about public sentiment, hunting dynamics, pressure, the fact other states are BROKEN, etc. So- a newbie or legislator that’s not the brightest takes a donors $ or is lobbied to support a stupid bill that has 0 chance of passing. They either do it out of ignorance or they do it knowing it’ll fail but appeasing the special interests.
I’d even go this far…. Even NR’s who are educated, that care more about resource than themselves…. They know we can’t open the floodgates. They know it would ruin this state. The folks who perhaps “get it” the most for Whitetail Regs are the dudes from broken states!!!
