Oil vs surfactant

Can somebody explain the difference between crop oil and non-ionic surfactant as well as when and where each are used?

Thanks.

I also have several links on the subject in the herbicide thread...;)

Sorry Paul, I don't have the patience to read through 6 pages of posts. Plus I can't post in that area so if I had a follow up question I would have had to put it here.

It looks like, just to be safe, if there isn't anything in the lable about adjuviants one should use surfactant. So I added 2 teaspoons of surfactant to my 2oz/gal of Crossbow. Damn thistles. It is gonna be a summer long project. I had sprayed them with Tremec and just a dash of oil on the 4th and it barely stunted them. The ones it killed I'm sure I sprayed three or four times. I also added some spray dye yesterday and that helped a lot.

I had great luck killing thistles with a super potent spraying of roundup.....twice. I nuked it once and came back later on and hit what sprouted from seeds/rhizomes and they never came back. Just checked them again this spring and the entire area was still clear.

I have 5 gallons of garrison herbicide that I am going to try on thistles this year and see how that works.
