It was windier then all heck but I went out yesterday anyhow. Okay here it is. I'm on the ground a doe comes in at about 25yds. She came running in and kept looking behind her, but after 10 minutes nothing. So I decide to take another doe. I had a broadside shot, but knew the trail she was on and knew I would have a quartering away shot. I opted to wait for the quartering away and give more time for something to come(a buck) up the trail behind her. Just as she was about to put her head down I released. Right in front of me 25yds away, nothing in the way. I followed through, shot felt good, looked good. The arrow made a sound like I have never heard before. It wasn't a tree, I know that sound, it wasn't the typical thump either. She bolted out of there, like a deer that was hit, got about 15yds into her run and shook her head voilently while she was running. I looked in the area for the shot no blood no arrow. I figured I caught her in front of the left hind quarter and the angle would have been through to her front right shoulder. I looked for 15yds or so on her trail but still no blood. I opted to wait until today to go look when it was daylight. Like I said it looked like a good shot, but that was an odd sound and she shook her head, but she took off running like a hit deer. Do you think I hit her???? My two guesses, she is either a dead deer within 100 yds, or perhaps I nicked her noggen??? I'll post again after I look later today, but any opinions? How long does it take to start finding blood on a quartering away shot with out a pass through??
