One of the only ways I know of that can easily determine a deers age is teeth.. otherwise, due to genetics, you can't ever really tell.

Even with teeth, the only way to take the guesswork out of it is to send in an incsor tooth and have it aged with cementum annuli analysis. Aging with molar wear is about as much guessing as looking at body shape.
 
He's got that notched ear


Looks like he's missing his ear tag, and I don't see his brand. Maybe it's on the other side. We tag and notch ears and brand them to show ownership around here, in case they hop the fence or get loaded and taken to the sale barn. Wouldn't want someone else to make claim to him. ...oh wait, I'm thinking of cattle.

I stand by mature. If he's still around in the fall, better shoot him and have him aged for all us interested!
