Had probably the best turkey hunt of my young life last Friday for youth opener. Alex skipped school and we hit a farm. As we were setting up Alex said he saw a few birds in a yonder tree.... he wasn't lying.
We watched and listened to the music and eventually we decided there were 4 gobblers and 17 hens in the tree. They pitched down and teased us for about 45 minutes.
Suddenly a 5th bird showed up and made a march for the decoy.
This is where things got chaotic... once bird #5 charged that got birds 1-4 amped up and they were moving so fast that I couldn't keep up. They were halfway to the deeks before I told Alex they're running and into the deeks by the time I said they're here!
5 gobblers running around destroying each other and my decoy plus Alex asking me "which one is best?" Fortunately I happened to notice 1 bird had great spurs and kept my eye on him. Said "take that one on the right" and even thru all the commotion he was able to hammer that guy when he paused.
