Owning your own property/farm

This is why we all need to band together and work with our legistors next season to try to add some more teeth to Iowa trespassing law. We have such a problem now because the penalty is minimal -we need to change that.

I totally agree, I will support any group that makes this a priority!:way:

It needs changed maybe like a 3 strike program 3rd time jail.

That would be a start, something definitely needs to be done. Iowa continues to get more and more notoriety every year. I feel like every year now I read about some out of state poaching ring.

Very true, every year it seems like I find a stand on my property. Last year, I found two ladder stands and a couple mineral licks.

I honestly, don't get how people feel comfortable doing that. I would not only feel bad, but would be nervous as hell that somebody would catch me!
Kinda ballsy with the stands and the minerals, some people are just plain stupid. I used to enjoy reading stories in magazines about Iowa bucks 10 years ago, now I cringe, because it encourages a whole new batch of poachers.

Does it help to put up a fence? I do not have trespassing issues in MN, but I am sure I will on my Iowa land. Would a good solid fence on the entire property help, how much would it cost (approx) to fence in 100 acres?

Unless you put up like some constantine or razor wire... I don't think a fence is going to do much good

If the fence is run-down and non-existant in places, a new one would help define the boundaries and let them know someone is watching, otherwise not much stopping someone who wants to cause trouble.

True, I'd prefer not to put up more fence, but we will see. Maybe it will not be that bad, it is at least 1/4 mile off any road so that helps.

Razor wire should keep anyone out. Barb wire doesn't stop them.

They can climb a fence very easily. I do not see that stopping anyone that wants to push/hunt deer on a farm they are not supposed to be on. It could help with tickets tho so there is a very defined border.
