Ok guys lets keep pushing the "right way "to hunt deer.

I'm calling the DNR to see if range finders are leagle because I think they give you an unfair advantage:confused:

Lets see what other libertys we can take away from each other!!! WTF

Clarity

Just a short note to dedgeez Just to clarify concerning carbon one needs to read the court documents that are available at Justia.com. Once you read these you will be able to grasp what the trial really revealed. Even with the carbon companies , Cabellas Bass Pro and Browning having the majority of the depositions sealed from the public there still is plenty of information.
"no one has said that there product doesn't work"
Lee Lakowsky is quoted in the trial that he called Scentlok and told them the product wasn't working and they were being winded and losing footage.
Myles Keller is quoted in the trail as calling Scentlok and telling them that it wasn't working and he was told to wear two suits.
Phil Phillipps also stated that the carbon wasn't working. What is interesting is that they were all on the Prostaff.
Some where between 30-40 test with dogs certainly says something about the failure of carbon to hide human odor. Deer according to most information can smell better than most animals.

Further clarification is that Scent Blocker was never cleared inspite of what they might claim but were forced into a settlement agreement which is sealed.

Now to ozonics. I spent some time looking into the claims of ozone makers and each seem to indicate that there are certain risks that go along with its use. Todd would there be or is there a disclosure warning those who have pre-existence medical conditions. If one of the odor problems is the release of skin cells how could ozonics actually help with that ? It seems from the other makers of ozone machines that they are dealing with a specific area and not an outdoor situation. What has ozonics discovered about ozone that others don't know.

This is going to be my last post on IW. I want to apologize to Todd for calling him a salesman, and classless. Todd, you do have my respect. You do bust your tail in the industry, and I do respect that. Me and my buddy are in the same situation you are with breaking into the industry. Now I never have once said this does not work, I simply have said time and time again that I think a deer will associate it with humans in time, and that its not for me. I would much rather kill deer on my own terms. No disrespect to anyone, but thats how I want it. Now when I posted about when I talked to the DNR. I did call the state office and had a nice chat with them, it wasnt my local guy. The exact quote is that Ozonics is illegal because it is battery operated. While yes, rangefinders and everything else are, once you turn a range finder on, it doesnt stay on. As does the Ozonics. That is where the issue is. The Ozonics is run constanly by a ELECTRIC MOTOR. Which states in the regulations that is illegal. I realize we all read things differently, and you dont read it that way. You stated earlier that you read it as it doesnt bait or attract deer. Which I agree with, but its still an electronic device. Now look, like I said, I am not really for or against this, I just like to play by the law. Now I am not saying that you are a law breaker. I am just simply stating what I was told. Kill the messenger, thats fine. Can I ask, who else actually called? Can I ask, Todd, did you call and ask or just assume because it didnt attract or bait? Again, I am not sitting here "throwing stones" as some say. Yeah, you struck a nerve, and I am over it. I am tired of IW, and how no one can have any opinions without everyone jumping over everyone else. I realize, I have been there and done that, and I will apologize to everyone on the site. But that is one thing people need to realize, everyone sees things in many different ways, and everyone has there own desires, goals, ways to kill a deer. Never once will everyone be on the same page, and thats the great thing, we dont have to be. I killed 2 5 1/2 old+ deer last year. While maybe yes, luck played a big part, I feel like I outsmarted them. I have never bought into scent lock, scent blocker, or any of the other crap. I just busted my tail to outsmart them, much like you do Todd. Again, if I offend anyone, I am sorry...
Basically, I want to apologize since some think I am simply trying to make Todd look bad since I called the DNR to ask to KNOW the regulations. Everyone always says there is a gray area, well I am a more black and white guy..I like to KNOW the regulations. Again, sorry if I am pissing anyone off...Everyone take care, as stated, this is my very last post on IW. It was great to get to know everyone, talk with people, learn great lessons from everyone. But when someone cant have an opinion, or try to look into a subject, I am done. Sorry guys, its be great. I have been here for a long time, and its been my life for a long time. I guess its time to move on to more important things than an internet forum. Again, sorry if I ruffled any feather with this post..Take care, and good luck hunting everyone :drink1:

Go back and read your post and see how it comes off.

Sorry you feel singled out. Don't think it is something to quit coming to this sight over.

But thanks for getting the information. I'm sure more people are going to check on it.

Flugge, don't let a thread get to yah man. From my point of view, when you called the DNR and then posted "Ozonics-Illegal in Iowa since it is BATTERY operated.. sorry guys!" A lot of us including myself jumped on the that is BS because range finders are battery operated. Nothing against you but more towards the DNR officer. How can you have a range finder that is battery operated be legal and then another device that is bettery operated not be legal. This would be unfair in my opinion.

Well now that I have read all your other posts in which you explained in greater detail what the DNR met it is because it is put in Manual "Turn the switch on and she runs continuous" That is a big difference from a range finder like you have said. I think if it was put in the original post you had made about your findings from the DNR it may not have went the direction that it did.

We all hunt for different reasons which is great. We all also measure success in different ways. Ozonics may seem a little crazy to some of us but if I posted up a post about how much my LUCKY hunting hat has helped me over the years yall would think I was crazy. I WILL not hunt without that hat on. I would rather forget my bow than my favorite hat..............and I thought ozonics was crazy. ;)

I also don't see any reason to feel the need to "quit the site". Relax, enjoy the long weekend, see you on Tuesday. :drink1::way:

At least its not a lucky pair of boxers :)

Say it ain't so Flugge!! We are all buddies here with the same passion and it would be a shame to lose you as we all learn from each other on what works, what's out there, and then ultimately we all have our choices of what to use. So...come on back! :way:

Yeah man, don't leave the site dude! This is one of the best out there because most of the time people are cool as heck and this place harbor's alot of serious whitetail guys (yourself being included).

Sorry if I went over the top with you man - but I don't want this topic to be the reason you don't want to be here. Life's too short man, I never meant to make you feel unwelcome brother!

We're all the same here man. We are all trying to get to the same place, we all just have different paths and that's what FREEDOM is all about!

Happy 4th everyone!

Flugge, from a NR who everyone loves to hate I've dished it out at times and have been criticized at every level on this site, but I still learn a ton and enjoy most of the threads and posts here. Your opinion on this topic is fine and is not a reason to leave. Hope you stay!

flugge -yes you have invested a lot of time here. I only have a few post. I looked back through the entire thread and feel you have shared some important insights. You have to realize that the hunting industry for the most part is a clique. Its is a stacked deck against hunters. While ozonics has been discussed it is only an example of a much larger problem . Last night I was watching or listening to a Scentlok sponsered program with Phil Phillips and when he was quoted in the trail as admitting that scentlok didn't work he is now out there saying how important it is if you want to get an elk. In my opinion they will say anything to promote a product. Won't it be impressive if they would actually not speak out of both sides of their mouths. There are so many examples of this its unbelievable.
I can understand ypour frustrations and appreciate your frustrations about getting challenged , especially when you were doing the right thing . These forums need people like you. The problem is that they will stare you in the face and say the facts don't matter . Now let me tell you the real truth. On some other forums you would get banned if the product was a sponser. So please PM me and say you will hang in there with me. This is a tough industry to try and get a product into. I have been the part of 8 testings with search and rescue dogs both testing carbon. I have seen it with my own eyes that carbon has no effect on stopping human odor. At the same time Scent Blocker was invited to be there and participate but declined. I have personally been a part of a test using a new nanotechnology and had a bloodhound cross my trail twice and walk with in 30 yards and pass by without detecting me. Companies are afraid to go against these companies for fear of lawsuits. No Trace came along and tried to bring a new product to market and they were forced into bankruptcy. So good luck with your product. There needs to be a lot more discussion about how this industry is regulated.
Please hang in there dispite a bad experience. Maybe you can be like John ?

We as deer hunters & Americans are increasingly close-minded and unwilling to listen to opposing views.

As dumbness has been defined downward in American public life during the last two decades, one of the most important and frequently overlooked culprits is the public's increasing reluctance to give a fair hearing -- or any hearing at all -- to opposing points of view.

Whether watching television news, consulting political blogs, websites or (more rarely) reading books, Americans today have become a people in search of validation for opinions that they already hold. This absence of curiosity about other points of view is the essence of anti-intellectualism and represents a major departure from the nation's best cultural traditions.

This spirit of inquiry, which demands firsthand evidence and does not trivialize opposing points of view, is essential to a society's intellectual health.

I would really like to live in a society that values fair-mindedness. But it will take nothing less than a revolutionary public recommitment to the pursuit of fairness, knowledge and memory to halt, much less reverse, the trend toward an ignorant single-mindedness that threatens the future of hunting and democracy itself.

The statement does not necessarily reflect the opinion of iowawhitail.com or the administrators or moderators of this website.

I accept responsibility of this the content of my post, please read it again and think about.

Just do me a favor and don't throw me in the catagory of any of these other "promoters". Not all of us are the same, this is the reason I started my own video company in the first place was because I was fed up with the way "they" represented us as hunters. Most are an absolute joke - and I have the same reaction as all you guys. Just because I'm standing up for a product I believe in (and you don't) - doesn't mean I'm lying because I'm in the business.

Why don't you pay for the advertising like other companies have to; instead of using a free internet forum? I don't mind seeing Lone Wolf as a sponsor on this site along with several other. I would be irritated however if they used the forum threads to try to sell their products.

Amazing how many people are getting so upset over the use of the Ozonics machine. If you don't like it - don't use it. For those all worried over the health aspects - have you ever done a complete health study of the use of scent eliminator sprays on human skin? How about camouflage face paint? Or maybe start worrying about the radiation emitted from your cell phone or the laser refractrion from your rangefinder. Everything out there kills us in some way or another. I understand they use a version of the ozone machine in every hospital, on the space shuttle, in hotel cleaning, car detailing, etc and is naturally emitted during a lightning storm.

They say ozonics is illegal because it has to manually be turned off, now that raised the question as to a Thermacell would be illegal as well. I hunted with one of those a few times early season when I had a favorly wind and had a buck patterned. Are these illegal as well?
