Painting rattling antlers?

Anyone ever paint a set of real rattling antlers? I like the idea of the black rack for deer not being able to see it as easy but not sure if the spray paint would make them sound different or when I get to slamming them together if they would give off a paint odor? Don't want to learn the hard way!!

My set has been painted since 05. I painted them a brownish green. I also cut off the brows. Each side is about 70 inches. Doesn't sound any different to me and honestly don't really notice paint chipping off. I don't use them a whole ton though.

I'm just concerned about the paint smell once I start slamming them together if that would give off an odor or not!?

Paint a couple of small ones or a couple of metal rods, let it dry and then slam them together and see if it smells.

The deer will smell you before they would smell the paint.

The paint is no issue with smells.

We have had luck soaking them in water that has a bunch of walnuts with the husk still on. It gets them darker. No paint smell.
