This one looks terribly severe. Brings back some strong memories from an F4 on June 28,1979. Road that one out in the basement with the storm on the ground within a 100 yards of the my house.

Does anyone know of some people in Parkersburg or the surrounding areas that got hit by the tornado? I have a group of people from a club of mine at Iowa State that are looking to help out this weekend and into the summer. We would obviously do some clean-up this weekend, but also looking to rebuild as the clean-up effort dwindles.

We just got back today from being gone since 4:00 Monday morning. Worked the first day in Des Moines and then headed to the Waterloo area. Wednesday they had us in Parkersburg putting lines back up to some of the homes that made it through the storm. Coming into town from the east it was the most eery feeling. I can't imagine what everyone went through during and just after the storm. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Spent the morning in the rural Dunkerton area at an acreage clean-up site. Some of the rural acreages east of Parkersburg were hit pretty hard also.

Headed west about noon and your correct, coming into Parkersburg from the east is hard to put into words. As I stated above, I had been through this on a personal level 29 years ago in Manson so I could remember my impressions from that F4 storm and the immense damage these storms can do. However, I was with a pastor from my church and four youth who had not seen this type of situation first hand before. Their comments were very indicative of their amazement at the damage. "Amazing, Depressing, Oh my God", you could tell it was much more devestating than they expected.

Much kudos to anyone assisting in the power supply recovery. That was one of the first things that I noticed. Very surprised at the progress that appeared to have already been made in the immediate area regarding the utility pole replacements and lines back up.

It is extremely bad destruction in the immediate path area, many flat slabs. Lots and lots of activity today. Many volunteers appear to be in town also. Volunteers are being asked to register at a church (I believe Methodist) in the NE area of town behind the high school area. I hope to get back over more in the next few weeks. Don't want to sound like a jerk but if your planning a trip to the area, please go to work not look. Too much work to be done and traffic to manage for any extra vehicles. This one is going to take a long, long time.
