Spent the morning in the rural Dunkerton area at an acreage clean-up site. Some of the rural acreages east of Parkersburg were hit pretty hard also.
Headed west about noon and your correct, coming into Parkersburg from the east is hard to put into words. As I stated above, I had been through this on a personal level 29 years ago in Manson so I could remember my impressions from that F4 storm and the immense damage these storms can do. However, I was with a pastor from my church and four youth who had not seen this type of situation first hand before. Their comments were very indicative of their amazement at the damage. "Amazing, Depressing, Oh my God", you could tell it was much more devestating than they expected.
Much kudos to anyone assisting in the power supply recovery. That was one of the first things that I noticed. Very surprised at the progress that appeared to have already been made in the immediate area regarding the utility pole replacements and lines back up.
It is extremely bad destruction in the immediate path area, many flat slabs. Lots and lots of activity today. Many volunteers appear to be in town also. Volunteers are being asked to register at a church (I believe Methodist) in the NE area of town behind the high school area. I hope to get back over more in the next few weeks. Don't want to sound like a jerk but if your planning a trip to the area, please go to work not look. Too much work to be done and traffic to manage for any extra vehicles. This one is going to take a long, long time.
