We were checking on our prarie burn areas and we accomplished the goal of knocking back the brome...but this plant has taken over. We burnt last spring and the brome really was stunted and a good amount of big blue thrived after being released. The weeds weren't really a problem. This year the "mystery plant" came back in full force, curious what this is?

Its about 5' tall and THICK!
smells really good
deer seem to have been browsing on it
the song birds are in heaven right now too

That is all the facts I gathered but here are some pictures.

Definately white sweet clover, grown big time up here for erosion control and or cattle forage.

This stuff is EVERYWHERE in our old pastures that we've burned the past few years...what does a guy do? Or just let it go? The ground was old pasture 15 years ago.

Ya, it is in the grass. Thinking its not going to happen this year, we don't have a tall enough boom or sprayer that will go over the stuff. Its 5' tall and the only thing we got is a 4-wheeler mounted tank w/ boom. Guess we'll keep on top of it more in the future.

Any positive aspects for it? It seems like it would be good bird cover or fawn cover. I bet there isn't much grass alive under that jungle though.

I've got it too, lots of it,but it does have enough benefit to be way down on my list of concerns.
Garlic Mustard,Yellow Parsnip and of course thistles are what I'm targeting now. They are keeping me busy.
The deer seem to like the white sweet clover.

I have that in a cattle pasture, but it is FAR worse around all the edges of the fence so it must be pretty good forage for cattle and it appears deer like to browse it also.
