Ok here is the deal, i got all ready for an afternoon in the stand, on my way out to the stand i saw several deer. When i was about 40 yards from my stand All i see is RACK, This was the biggest buck that i have ever seen in the woods, i rough scored him at just under 175". I mean huge, this buck is setting right under my stand just laying there. It is 2 PM i have never hunted this stand yet this year, and it is the same stand that i shot a 152" 8 pointer out of last year. As soon as i saw this rack i hit the ground, and got up on my knees. He was turning his head but his face was under the weeds and the rack was above the weeds, he never smelled me, heard me, or saw me. I just belly crawled out of there and let him lay. Now to the question... Do i hunt that stand all day tomarrow? or do i go in there at about 10 am and try to get there before he does. I have no clue what time he wondered in there. Please help me, i really want this buck, it is the first time i have seen this particular buck, and i dont know what to do. To tell you the truth i am shaking so bad right not i am about to cry. I just got home from this whole incedent. I dont know what to do.

What I would do is not go back there. tell me where the stand is and I will see what I can do when I am in there. I will tell you when the coast is clear and I have him out of there. That way you won't have to worry about it anymore.

The stand is in the woods, you go by big oak tree take a left, go through some sapplings then hang a right and you will see a lot of ANTLER sticking up out of the weeds. No for real do you guys think i should just hunt the stand all day tomarrow?

He's the golf course mascot, please don't shoot him.

Get in and kill him. Don't know if it requires an all day hunt, but if you got the time might as well go for it. He isn't spooked at all and feels comfortable in the area, slip in quiet and hope for the best. Good luck.

Why did you back out? If you got to 40 yards, I would of sat on the ground until he got up. You might of got a shot. I would be back in there tommorow, who knows, he might come back.

Get in the stand way early like 1-2 hours before daylight(wind permitting) and wait him out. Let him come in and and bed down and be ready. It wont be long he'll be running does and will have no pattern at all.

I would have to say the same thing as SCottIC....you should have waited him out. If the brush was too thick for a shot when he got up, I can see why you did what you did but if it was in a field, he could have easily gotten up and presented a perfect shot.

As far as tomorrow, it is a whole new day, things change this time of year and he may have just had a hot doe tied down and gone tomorrow. I would not hessitate to get in there early AM and sit until 11 or so or all day if time permits. Good luck in the pursuit of him.

Like Shredder said. You have to know if he was in a bedding area or just happened to be there. If it's his bedding area can you get to your stand without stinking up the area and letting him know you're there? If it's not a true bedding area you could sit there all day and not see him. I would go with your best instincts but remember, at least he was there once and if he wasn't drug there by a doe he may return. Hey, He's in your neighborhood. Things could be worse. Maggs

I agree. Ya better get in there right away or he may be gone chasing does any day. As always, this time of year, I'd sit the whole day if you have time. Good luck and send us a picture.

Just wait....I be right over to take care of him for you....NO Problem !

Reason for not stalking closer is because he was laying down in a very heavily weeded area, all i could see was his antlers, his whole body and head was under weeds. I guess i was just scared, i didn't know what to do, i just thought that if I were to stay there all he will do is smell me and then get up an run, my scent was blowing right at him. I knew today was supposed to be a south wind and that is perfect. So i got out there early before light, and sat. I saw a total of 16 deer this morning and that included 2 bucks That were in range and were good ones, but i just wanted the big boy so i passed them well about 12:30 rolls around and the wind is switching and blowing my scent right to where the big buck was bedded (I can see his bed plain as day from my stand). So i just quietly climbed down and came home for hte afternoon. There will be more chances at this buck, HOPEFULLY
