Polk County Area hunting

Alright all -- I haven't done a ton of research yet, but figured this would be a good place to start. I recently obtained a job with the Polk County Sheriffs Office and will be moving up there come roughly feb-march of 2018. I'm not real familiar with the "country" area and am curious where some good public (if there is any) land around to hunt until I can make myself known and/or familiar to local farmers. Looking for both bowhunting and upland game. Thanks in advance.

Saylorville and Big Creek Wildlife area can offer some good hunting if your willing to walk in deeper then the average guy.

Also congrats on the new job, and thank you for your service as a Peace Officer. I know several guys out at Polk County.

Go an hour away from DSM in any direction and you'll find better hunting than the close stuff.
