Would you support ending all seasons by December 31?
(essentially shortening the late season and eliminating late doe season completely)

You already don’t have to wear orange to bowhunt late season. It would be nice to have a week after the gun seasons that you dont have to wear orange to bowhunt!
Agree, the 2 weekends is a big deal to some choosing this season. Leave the shotgun seasons as is. Start late muzzleloader on Monday of 2nd gun season and let those 2 seasons overlap, including all legal weapons for late season.Good thought. One problem I see is almost no one would go gun 2. The reason it has 2 weekends is to incent hunters to pick it so the pressure is spread out. Maybe that isn't as big of a deal as there are fewer drives. Public would be even more nuts in gun 1 with those seasons...
It’s wild how much Iowa Climate has changed in my 25+ years of hunting. I saw guys pulling boats on the interstate coming back from fishing today. Good chance there will not be an ice fishing season anywhere south of i80 this year outside small farm ponds that freeze fast. Looks like well into January we’re going to see well above freezing temps. I’ve got more shed bucks on camera than i can recall this early in several years. Also, a guy hates to be a Debby downer for guys trying to fill their tag these last few days/week of season; but let’s be real. Most guys today are going to lower their standard yet again, just to fill a tag. So we stay in this cycle of filling our tag just to fill our tag. Shooting a big doe just to get some deer meat, the buck that got passed all season now becomes fair game only for a guy to then regret what he did. It’s a vicious cycle and I’ve been on that side of the fence. Take away the temptations for a couple seasons and make Iowa great again…………Sounds good to me i would also shorten youth season somewhat. With all the current early shedding i am 100% all deer hunting on 12/31
Me too but had my statewide along too, and a county antlerless. I had a shed buck at 600 yards but thought it too easy of a shot in these light 18 mph winds.Just took a walk with a ML and the evil floating LOT that went unfilled. Should have taken that evil mile shooting smokeless.![]()
Never really understood shooting an iffy buck late in the season IF your goal is to harvest mature/trophy.It’s wild how much Iowa Climate has changed in my 25+ years of hunting. Yup. No deer that isn’t good enough on Oct 1st is good enough on Jan 10th. Pick your standards on day 1 and don’t let them change.Never really understood shooting an iffy buck late in the season IF your goal is to harvest mature/trophy.
Personally im of the mindset of they've ALMOST made it so they gonna have to be special or management variety
Very easy to say, not so easy to do for some. I personally know of 3 bucks killed in last 48 hours that were less than bucks, just to fill the tag and post on social media………..”got it done”Yup. This exact thing. Nothing against them- but TBI hasn’t helped the cause of that…Very easy to say, not so easy to do for some. I personally know of 3 bucks killed in last 48 hours that were less than bucks, just to fill the tag and post on social media………..”got it done”
It’s happening and it’s happening more now than ever with social media being the high of so many peoples day to day lives………..
Seems almost pointless to end 12/31 if adjusted to not loose days.I thought about how to do this or how dates would shuffle correctly/fairly if done.
Few ideas. Bow is clearly done Jan 1 here so they give up 10 days.
Here’s one example of how u could shift things where it’s done Jan 1 without reducing any days in the field for gun hunters or very little. (Gun 1 & 2 would for sure have same amount of days). ML would still have a lot & that would also be bow season (or crossbow for those in ML season that want to use crossbows).
