The largest golden eagle on record was a huge 23 pound female in a national park in Spain she also held the record for the tallest Golden eagle, standing 36 inches (3 feet).

Golden Eagles often have a division of labour while hunting: one partner drives the prey to its waiting partner. Their prey includes marmots, hares and mice, and sometimes birds, martens, foxes and young deer. Large mammals like chamois or adult deer can only be taken if they are wounded or sick. In the US, Golden Eagles often take lambs as prey, providing a significant source of mortality and earning the enmity of sheep ranchers.

After doing a little research I reneg my statement of being photoshop I belive it is real

I have been working with photoshop everyday for the past 8 years and am pretty proficiant with it - if this is a photoshopped pic it was done unbelievably good... very hard to replicate what is seen here

Especially the lighting... notice how the light source is hitting the back foot of the fox (the one in the air), but the light is not hitting his rump/tail area, this is because these areas are in the shadow of the oncoming eagle. The front paws of the fox are on the ground and therefor in the snow.

Very cool pic! Also looks as though it could be a younger fox, making the eagle appear bigger - and golden eagles always look bigger when they have their wings open - they can have a wing span of over 6 ft.

i agree, neat pic. and i think that the fox's front feet are in the snow.

my question, why is the fox in the air? the eagle's talons are WIDE open.

you ever miss a coyote or fox, but hit close enough in front of him to make him jump 5 feet in the air? I bet that sucker just caught him out of the corner of his eye in the last second, and jumped. Awesome pic.

Either that or he lost his grip.I think its a legit photo.Look at the detail in the snow flying.

I had computer troubles for a week or 2 and missed this thread. I totally believe that pic is real. At least 5 times every winter I see bald eagles feeding on road killed deer. Every time the trees are filled with ravens and sitting back in the distance are coyotes. Something tells me that if the coyotes will sit and wait for the eagles to have their fill there is a reason for it. I'm wondering if that eagle smacked him and let go b/c he was too heavy. I doubt they could carry one off but imagine the damage those talons and that razor beak could do. Awesome photo. If a guy sat buy a road kill or even a road side gut pile here in the winter he'd get some awesome eagle photos. Too cool!
