Turned out to be a pretty darn good weekend down in southern Iowa. We packed up and left Thursday afternoon and we’re able to get some birds roosted that night. Friday morning comes and good buddy Seth Moore kills a bird first thing right in the decoys. About a half hour later my brother, Jed, kills another bird behind the scoot n shoot about 150 yards from where Seth killed his.
I hunted the rest of the morning and got really close to two long beards before a hen came through and took them the other way. We all headed back out about 3:00. An hour and a half goes by and we finally get a response about 100 yards away. 4 toms and a hen come right up to the decoys and beat the jake up pretty good. It was pretty hard to get one singled out to get a shot and it was pure chaos in the blind. As they started walking off, I was able to get a shot at about 15 yards. The bird took off flying and landed about 100 yards away. We watched him land and it looked like he went down. Gave him some time and went over to where we last saw him and he was stone dead right there. First bird with a bow and he was a good one!
Saturday morning Seth and Jed went and sat with another buddy, Ryan, morning started off slow. We spotted a big group of birds about 300 yards away from them and they were able to get a couple toms to break off from the group with the fan. Ryan got his first bow kill on a beautiful bird.
Video should be up on YouTube pretty soon.
