Price of hunting gear

Went from an 06 PSE to a 2010 Mission Eliminator II to a 2014 Xpedition Xcentric . Each time it was leaps and bounds above my other bow.... Did kill my buck this year with my 2010 though.

I bought my only brand new bow from Fin & Feather in 1986. Used it until I bought a used bow in 2004. Bought a "newer" used bow in 2012. I wouldn't consider any of them "high end" but they work for me. I would say that there were HUGE improvements from '86 to '04 and wished I had upgraded sooner. :D

Somebody mentioned Halon so had to look it up, sounds like a Halon 7 might be something to pick up used. ;)

No doubt things have sure changed and prices keep going up and up. The way look at it I spent way to many years hunting with ridiculously crappy clothing freezing my butt off, crappy stands that I still can't believe didn't kill me, and less than stellar equipment. I like being warm and like new toys :)

You guys finding used bows can you tell me where you find them? I am aware of other online locations. I would prefer to buy one in person. Thanks.

My 08 Hoyt keeps putting the arrows where I aim, so it's getting a new string in the off-season.

Craigslist has lots of "newer" used bows. Some at great deals, others not so much. I saw a fully loaded halon about a week ago priced at $550 fully loaded... if I only had $550 I would throw at it... but my switchback too, keeps putting the arrows where I aim.

I think archery talk is a great place. Lots of guys buy just to shoot them for a little while and just want some money out of it to buy the next bow. I took advantage of that myself. Just buy from a guy with good history and you'll be fine

I don't see a huge technological advancement has been made the last several years. I currently shoot my 06/07ish I think, X-Force. I haven't spent a whole lot on gear for quite awhile but I am going to throw money at a new high end light weight hang and hunt set up before next fall though. To each their own, if ya got it spend it.

I wonder if on a Harley Davidson forum and the members talk about the price of t-shirts, leather, lace, and Crome. Also about the price of oil ( cause they're always leaking :() Just joking:)
In reality we don't have it so bad. Hunting is a game we play and you can play as hard as you want or spend as much as you want on products.
Many years I played with less when the kids were home but now as a empty nester I'm making those years up and having a blast doing it.

I agree that prices seem outrageous, at least on some items. I guess you have to prioritize with your money. When I got into bowhunting, I bought a used bow that came with everything to get me started. I used it 5 or 6 years, and then bought a "new" bow. Brand new, old stock, a couple model years old, so I got it cheaper. I'm not one to need a new bow each year, or every other year. I'll probably use this one until it breaks, unless I can justify spending the money on another one. If so, I'll go with new old stock or used. Can't really justify paying brand new prices. I go without a lot of other gear that I'd like to have, and I would say I went cheap on the clothing. That's probably where I need to invest some more in the near future. Also, if I can make something to do the same job as a piece of gear I'd like, I'll do that if it saves money. One thing I can't stand the price of is batteries for trail cameras! I either need more efficient cameras, or need to find a place to buy in bulk!
