Private pond eye

I have been stocking this gravel pit with walleyes for the last 15 years. Heres a nice one from last week. I must be a male, It has a huge head and a skinny body. Close to a five pounder. We do all catch and release. I was told Walleyes wouldnt spawn in a gravel pit but now were catching some real small ones here and there.http://iowawhitetail.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=76&pictureid=656

I dont know if this is true or not but Ive heard that river walleyes will only spawn in rivers and ones from lakes will only spawn in lakes. Like I said Im no fish expert so this could just be a fish story but I have heard it a time or two

The darker than normal coloring says looks like spawning male to me...

walleyes need running water to have a successful spawn. If your gravel pit is spring fed with good water movement it is possible for them to spawn successfully. They spawn successfully in lakes the same way, and they also use wind blown points.
