Question about my deer mount

What would be the best thing to use to mount my deer to the wall? I have tried a few things and they have all broke as they were not strong enough. Even though the packaging said that they were. Thanks

Put a good solid screw of some type into a stud, if that don't work I'm curiuos to see how big your mount is!

Thats what I did when mine fell off the wall... right behind my dog. She always stares at it now and occasionally growls

Anyway, it hasn't fell since.

I use a 3" deck screw, make sure you hit the center of the stud, and slightly angle the screw downward, abd make sure you drive the screw in far enough so that your mount does not slide down and foward when you set it on there. It should not move at all once you let go.

Tips for hitting a stud:
1: buy a studfinder and put a little pencil mark where the right light starts and stops, and make sure it is 1.5" wide and put it in the middle.

2: measure over roughly 17" away from the side of a electrical outlet and use your stud finder or tap on the wall.

3: measure over roughly 17" from a corner, this does not always work! depends on windows, doors, etc...

I will second River Bottom Boy, Supertec knows how to pick the right Stud to get the job done

Several of my walls are weird on stud placement so I 2 of my mounts are not in studs. I just drove a thick deck screw into the drywall and have never had a problem. Now that I say that all my mounts will probably be laying on the ground with shattered antlers when I get back to IA.

I have a 53 pound moose rack mount hanging on the wall by only a thick deck screw through the dry wall...I don't know of any deer shoulder mounts that weigh that much....but, the stud option is always better if you can do it.

If I ever build a house some day I'm going to run 2 x 12's parallel to the floor all the way around my "man cave" (in between the 2x4s at mount level)so I don't have to worry about ever hitting a stud.
