Question on Doe tags

My county had a big drop in doe tags this year (350 in Howard County & 0 in Mitchell) and this worries me a bit. Last year was my first year bow hunting and before that I just bought the statewide tag, nothing else. Last year my friend that got me into hunting said that on Aug 15th we could buy ONE doe tag for whatever season and whatever county. A month later we could then buy as many doe tags as we wanted if they were available.

If I were to do this, this year, I would probably only get one doe tag for the whole year simply because they would be sold out in a months time. I called the DNR's customer service line today and asked how many doe tags I could buy on Aug 15th. The lady told me as many as I wanted until the quota was filled but she didn't sound very sure.

Anybody out there shed some light on this?? If I can buy as many as I want, I'm going to buy my regular 4 for bow season and 2 for shotgun right away on the 15th. Just to be safe I think I may run over to Wal-mart just after midnight. 15th ends up on a Sunday so maybe this will keep me out of trouble that Saturday night;)

you can only buy the one on the 15th until that month time is up...after that month, then you can buy all you want...i had the same problem last year, mitchell ran out before i could get more than one...

The reason fot the drop in doe tags in your area is because the population is down. Why keep hammering on the does if you know the numbers are down?

Doe numbers are still high on the two farms I hunt. I usually depend on a few does to fill the freezer. Hopefully pheasant season is a bit better this year, maybe I can fill the freezer with that:way:
