Quick question from a NR

yeah youre right that would be the smarter thing to do. and alot cheaper. but i cant convince my little brothers and there friends to stop riding dirtbikes and 4-wheelers out there. ALL the time.my grandparents dont care they just want us to have fun. and my brothers arent into hunting like i am.i have one of them shotgun hunting with me but he isnt into it like i am.and my dad never hunted or anything so they never got into it. i watched hunting videos on the outdoor channel and it got me hooked. i bought a cheap bow and shot a 6 pointer my first time in a deer stand. the stand was some old wood stand about 12 foot in the air about ready to fall over but it worked. now im hooked. damn whitetail got me goin crazy! im starting to get it figured out i hope...but ill never learn enough

maybe you can find a local farmer to trade off some of your labor for exclusive hunting rights...worth a shot

Steve, my friend...why don't you just make a post called....

"Ways to hunt Iowa and kill a buck every year as a Non-resident"

Ghosty,
Beens you called me out on it, I will delete the post. It is just a catch 22 with me every year. My instincts tell me to call the DNR because I know what he is doing, ( and talking with the guy) being a trophy hunter and all but he is doing nothing wrong yet....... He isnt that good of a hunter or patient hunter. I cant even verify he has a doe tag in his pocket but if he does and the DNR shows up and everything checks out then I just burned my plush hunting ground 10 minutes from my house.

Now you got me started on something, I bet that would be a best seller at Barnes and Noble /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Just remember...half of the profit from the book go to the one that came up with your book title! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

How bought........ I purchase a large track of timber and you and I get to hunt on it...... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

That way we both could say we profited from N.R.'s

I thought they did away with you being able to just buy a doe tag and hunt with the rest if you are a NR????? If not I might just have to get in on the action with some of my friends from IA.

Sofakingfast 1,did I say you had 200 grand in the bank? No,I was saying that is what it would cost me to have my little back 80. Your the one that does not understand the impact NR's have had on hunters that don't have there own land. Most of us don't have family that gives us land to hunt.We count on friends or good old knocking on doors to find places to hunt.I have been hunting longer then you have been alive, and have seen alot of changes in the last 10 years on trying to find places to hunt with land being bought up or leased.I also trade labor and favors I can get or do from my trade and it helped me stay on one farm when the owner sold it to his daughter and part of the deal was for me to still have hunting access. But the farm next door that I had access to I lost due to locals cutting fences to get there 4-wheeler to the river now the farmer does not let anybody on.Just feel lucky that your grandparents gave you a little peace of heaven and when you get my age hopefully you will still have it to enjoy with your kids!

I do understand what youre saying about the NR taking over. and it looks like it will only get worse. Everytime i look at my aerial map of the two places i can hunt i look at the big patch of timber "across the fence" and say DAMN i wish i could hunt that too. theres always that piece of timber surrounding my hunting grounds that i cant go on to because someone else hunts it. i guess thats why i love RUT because i can rattle them in /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif i should just be grateful for what i have. oh and by the way if you have been hunting longer than ive been alive than you should be nice and start giving me tips!!! theyre definitly needed

Fire away on any questions you have. This is what this site is for and I am always learning new things. Like I tell the kids I coach baseball "If your not getting better, your getting worse."
