If they would fix the pre-depoyment issues-it would be much more widely accepted with less negativity. In saying that, they have probably taken more game than any mechanical in history, and with that many "bowhunters" using them-you will have some haters.
I dont shoot them and am a very open minded individual. I have taken a few deer with them and like many, just moved on. The reason for penetration issues is often that the cutting width is so large, and the chopping effect takes place-hence limiting penetration.
If I shot them-Id likely use the2 blade but many companies have been listening and broadheads like the Ulmer Edge and G5 Havoc, along with the NAP killzone have seemed to address many of the issues and ALL have new heads out this year.
I like the Ulmer Edge concept and may have to give them a go....
I forgot to answer your question and I never really understood the "they didn't open" from many guys on a slug of mechanicals and physics dictate that is almost impossible. But, the three blade could infact cause a slightly uneven entrance so that may be the culprit in which you describe. The last mechanical 4 legged animal I took was with a Grimm Reaper and the entrance was shaft sized going in (still in shock about that) but very large going out. So they did "open" but not until inside and without an exit would have been an issue.
So, pick your poison and with anything there are problems, but shot placement is key no matter the broadhead.
