Rainy Day Rut Action

I have the option of taking off tomorrow or next Tuesday and have been dying to get back in a stand. But with the forecast tomorrow of 1/2" - 1" of rain I'm wondering if I should just wait till Tuesday. What have you guys experienced with all day rains during the rut?

I'm wondering with it really cooling down and rain/ possible snow mix if the big boys will be really moving or will deer kinda hunker down until it passes? I can't decide what to do. I'll be out Sunday morning and Monday all day as well. I just can't decide on whether to get out there tomorrow or wait till Tuesday.

If it's not a torrential downpour or rain with a ton of wind, I think the conditions are ideal! Light rain with a calm wind has always been productive for me. I also had the option of tomorrow and next Tuesday, and chose tomorrow for now. If it turns out to be super windy or raining cats and dogs I can always switch!

I have tomorrow off also and worried about the rain---If its not pouring rain they'll still be out. Otherwise, the main thing I'm worried about is following a blood trail!

Definitely another reason to make sure to wait for the perfect shot. No way would I even dare take a marginal shot in the rain.

I hope it is a light rain with a slight breeze all day. Those big boys will be moving hard!@!!

They were going hard this morning. Had a 155-160 bed 25-30 yards from me with a doe for 90 minutes-wind in my face. Had to work at 1PM so when a consistent train whistle blew I started working down the tree. Took boots off and got to within 15 yards before doe stood up spooky.

Had him with bow up but two small twigs in vitals and just couldn't risk the shot-just not clear.

Had a 130ish come by at 8:00 am and must have been grunting 30-40 times. Definitely a cool morning :)

I meant to hunt this morning and/or afternoon. Slept through my alarm clock and woke up at 7:30am. I was furious, so I went ahead and slept for a few more hours and headed out this afternoon. As I'm climbing my ladder, I hear a deer coming.....I turn and it's a buck running right at me (looked big at the time). So I hurry up to the platform and take a seat. The deer stopped in a shooting lane at 10 yards. It ended up being a 120-130 class 8 point. Not very wide, but fairly tall and massive. Had I been ready, I would have been temped. He was definitely bird doggin' on a trail, a doe must have passed through there at some time I'm assuming. That was at about 3:15. Had a small 6 point come around my stand an hour or so later, he hung around for 15 minutes or so.

I was excited to hunt in the rain this morning. Nothing like a light rain / drizzle to really get them going. As I was driving to my spot the rain picked up. I got there and sat in a down pour (in the truck) and finally made the decision to drive home. It has ranged from light rain to down pour since then. I'm not happy about missing the morning hunt / especially since I am in my last few days of vacation, but I would'nt have wanted to try to follow a blood trail in that rain. Maybe later today!

I was stoked to get in the tree this morning...especially after all the action I saw yesterday. Eventually a big boy is going to be searching for his next date, which could take him past my tree. With light rains forecast my hopes were even more elevated. It would be easier to get in quiet and my scent from yesterday would be washed.

I left my clothes (outter layer) out side like always. Alarm goes off at 430am and I hear it raining. OH CRAP!!! My clothes were soaked and my highly anticipated morning sit was washed. Got up at 8 and it's dry, mildly overcast, and low winds. Blown opportunity and its the last day of vacation for me. I do have the rest of the weekend to hunt though. It's time to get aggressive and try to get into the middle of it all.

Ya, I was planning on going out this morning but opted to work instead. I got up at 3:00 and checked the forecast one last time and it said heavy rains at times so I decided the heck with it and set the alarm to go to work. I was unsure if I made the right call but after a couple heavy down pours here I think it was a good call. I like hunting in a light rain, but if it starts raining hard it gets pretty miserable. The only bad thing now is that it has been only light rain for the past 2 hours. Oh well, looks like I'll be waiting till Sunday.

I went out nice & early this morning to beat the big guys that have been checking my scrape. 8 hours in the freezing tree & not 1 deer. I pulled the card out of my trail cam & the bucks are coming through at 11pm & 5am. It's getting closer. Just need 1 of the 3 to come through in shooting hours. The wide one was through 2 separate times last night :way:
