Did anyone here hunt with these new broadheads? They look simply awesome. Was wondering how they held up and if you had any problems with getting them to mount true (spin test)on the arrow? The are rather expensive, so I'd really like to hear some comments before I buy.

RBB,I've got some in the 200 grain weight, they mounted easily and spin very true. How they perform, hopefully I'll be able to let you know after the 20th of Feburary when we get back from our hog/javelina hunt.

Hey,

Let me know how you do. I've been looking around the net and have found some good reviews on them. From what most folks have been saying, they sound like a winner. I think I will give them a try.

I don't shoot compounds anymore, but thought that it was interesting that some of the guys shoot'n up near 300 fps were getting field point accuracy.

RBB, I will let you know how I make out with them. One problem I've always had is getting a three blade sharp. My two blades I can shave with, but the three blades have given me trouble. Traditionalbender told me that the sharpener from Montec for the G5 works great and got his three blades sharp enough to take hair from his arm, so I'm gonna give one a try. By the way, what bow are you shooting ? Right now I'm shooting a Morrison Cougar, but may order a takedown Thunderhorn this spring.

With the woodsman and snuffers I've been using a med mill bastard file to get to clean metal. I then use a DMT flat med diamond stone.

Their stones have hones in with the diamonds, kinda unique in that respect. The edge looks polished when done.

After using the DMT, I strop the blade with leather. It's quick, easy, and I can get the hair to just pop off my arm! I've used other methods in the past and had OK results, but this DMT seems to be the final answer.

I'm shooting a 60" 56@28 Widow PMA II and a PMA X cocobolo. Both bows are the same specs, I use the PMA II for hunting and PMA X for 3-D's and other.

The Morrisons look really nice, haven't had the pleasure of shooting one yet.

The Thunderhorn a Morrison? How do you like yours?

I've had no problem getting my Woodsmans sharp as the metal seems to be a little softer than the RCaps. Also the Rcaps are stainless so I guess that has something to do with it. I do like the fact that the RCaps don't get any surface rust on them after hunting in the rain or high humidity. I'll have to add one of those DMT flat mediums to my arsenal. Thanx for the tip! A friend uses a mill bastard then draws then across a regular knife steel and then strops them on a piece of cardboard and says they will pop the hair right off of his arm. The Thunderhorn is not a Morrison, you can check them out at thunderhornmfg.com . I have a one piece Thorn that I really like but need to get a takedown model. Duane Jessop is the bowyer and has one of the slickest takedown systems out there. You don't even need a handle cover his method is so clean. Travelling with a one piece has really gotten to be a pain.
The Morrison I have is a Cougar longbow model. It is dead quiet, fast, shoots where you look and is easy on the eyes. I just wish it was a little heavier in draw weight, it's only 51# @ 28". I like to shoot around 60-62 pounds. It was a gift from my wife, so i guess I'll be hanging onto it for a while!

Did you buy your Widows new ? Ken Beck is a great guy to deal with and a real asset to traditional archery.

You fellas ever shot a Chastain Wapiti takedown? Sorry.....not trying to highjack this thread......almost bought one this week....forgot about the auction and missed it by 10 minutes.

Bobcat,

Yes, I ordered them new. I've talked with Ken a few times, always enjoy speaking with him. He's an old Iowa boy.

I've had great service with Widow, that's one of the reasons I like them and stay with em'.

Rudd,

I shot one a few years ago at the Pekin Jamboree. It was a nice drawing bow, seemed well made and shot right where I wanted it to. I was in the market for a new bow that year and actually called Kieth Chastain. I remember him saying he'd been building bows since 1960.

The performance and quality wasn't an issue, I went with a new widow mainly because I liked their design and looks!

Rudd I've never shot a Chastain, but know a few guy's who do and have never heard anything but good about them, never a bad comment, they do have their following.
