Well, I told my Dad this year some weird things had been happening on our place like candy bars in the field tracks in the mud ect. We havnt told anyone this year they could be on our property so I talk with my Dad to look into it. So, we wait for it to snow and we find tracks (7 hours after it snowed) and we deside to put up NO HUNTING Without permission signs up the next day (this was yesterday) and then we went out last night to see and low and behold a truck with 4 hunters are chasing deer on our place we talk with them and kindly sho them off. Earlier today (around 7am) I hear a truck and I watch as he pulls into the driveway of our field I'm like "Are you for real?!" then I tell my Dad and he says to leave it so at about 4ish today we put up the NO HUNTING signs and close the gates on our field and then headed out to go to my Swim team practice. Well, we get home around 8ish and someone took the signs down (ripped them off the fence) and ran over the gates! Talk about rude! I couldn't beileve it!! I was so angry my Dad just said "Tomorrow we'll buy more and put them back up". It just upsets me and I'm 14! That people would do that!

Man thats tough. Honestly people dont care about others property anymore. Its sad people cant be respectful any more. I work on a farm so I see this alot also. Hell one day a couple of summers back I went down to the bottoms on the farm to do a little flat head fishin and some guys on four wheelers tried to kick us off. I had no clue who they even were. I wish you the best of luck

I like that idea too. I doubt barbed wire would work, barbs arent long enough. Ive had someone steal one of my stands & poach a deer & just leave it lay on my place. Was working about 5-6 toms a few springs back & here come a couple of guys right over the fence & almost right by me til they saw my decoy. i went ahead & busted the toms myself just to go talk with them. then my girlfriend had someone come driving thru the field while she was hunting this year. But I havent had anyone drive over any gates or rip down signs (they just shoot em!). Good luck to you & your dad. Wish people would learn respect.

take a couple 2x4s and drive a bunch of 16 penny nails in them. then flip them upside down with the nails facing up and cover it with snow. Just dont forget that they are there.

That's what I think I should do. But I leave for the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona today so I only have a few hours to make it.

This is illegal, even on private property. If someone gets hurt by that thing, they could end up owning the farm. NOT recommended.

That's really F'ed up if that is illegal! Sounds like the story of the burgular suing you for falling down your stairs and breaking a leg. What if it was honestly building materials that were left lay and some A-hole tresspasser walked over them and got hurt, I'd be dammed if I'd give them a red cent, that is what is wrong with this country anymore, the people aren't supposed to be there so it shouldn't matter what is lying there.

The reason that I made my recommendation earlier in this thread is that, yes, you do need to be careful before setting a trap. But...you can still use YOUR property to store things and so forth.

This is true, and it is also true that if someone does happen to "get hurt" on your land you are liable for it even if you didn't even know they were on your land. Most likely they wont go far if they are on rims anyways.

Enough said I like this idea and the harrow idea as well.

I am not so sure about that Erick. As long as you don't have a known hazard that is not properly guarded, etc, and/or a booby trap of some sort, you would not be liable. Also, by posting the ground, you are also giving fair warning that people are not welcome without permission.

If someone can come onto your ground illegally and then get "hurt" and sue you...we are all screwed!

I believe the legal guidance on a case like this would be: The applicable standard of care is the avoidance of willful and wanton injury. In other words, if the person that gets hurt was not welcome on the property and as long you were not shown to be "setting traps" for people, so to speak, you would be in the clear.

Also...Iowa has long adhered to the common law rule that "a possessor of land owes no duty to a trespasser other than not to injure him willfully or wantonly, and to use reasonable care after his presence becomes known to avoid injuring him."

Yeah I'd just go ahead with the 2 x 4 and drive some of those long and thick nails through them, then go set them out and cover them with snow. Don't set out a trail camera, sounds like these guys you're dealing with have no morals whatsoever.

Sounds like you guys have given them enough chances to do the right thing. Now its time to teach them a lesson. :way:

Looking at the license plates are these clowns form your county? If not a long ride home with no windshield would make them think twice about a return trip. :D Chips happen right?
