Recovering someone elses deer

Was he able to offer any proof this was the buck? Trail camera picture, or maybe given them a description before seeing it? Some way to prove he actually knows what he shot?
I hope he can get his deer but I could understand skepticism on the part of the other hunters if someone just showed up and claimed that was there deer.
Personally I wouldn't take a dead head out of the woods during deer season without tagging it. They are asking for trouble

There's no way he'll get that deer now if the DNR confiscates it from the shitbag that hacked it off the body. It will become property of the state in assuming? The only way to get it back to him would have to be testing the carcass for lead residue then matching it to the guys gun barrel??

Ive always wondered what the state does with confiscated deer heads?
