Renewed Faith in Scheels

Awhile back I posted a complaint that Scheel's was jerking me around over a simple choke tube wrench that I needed for my Mossberg. I went in and asked them to order one for me back in September. I know the salesmen well and I've brought them a good bit of business. I even helped them out with an inexperienced shooter who didn't know why a $20 scope wasn't a good idea if he wanted to bag a whitetail this year. The warehouse kept forgetting to put my choke tube wrench on the inventory truck every week. Well, I stopped in today to pick up a box of ammo in honor of National Ammo Day and the salesman greeted me with a smile and a new FREE choke tub wrench that is adapted to work with Mossbergs and Brownings and also has an integral scope adjustment tool. You can't beat FREE! Chalk up one Atta Boy for Scheels.

They made up for it on the ammo

When ever I go in there it always seem like they pester you to death in there. Boy does that ever annoy me.

They tried hosing me on a used gun trade-in about three years ago. I walked out and haven't been back. Shop at that store and you're sure to take it in the shorts!!!!

places like scheel's are damned if they do and damned if they don't. you can have the same experiences at any of the big sporting goods shops. you can be pestered in any department store, if we just stood around BSing in some corner while customers looked around we'd be considered lazy and unhlepfull. trade ins can be a touchy subject anywhere you go. both parties are looking to get the best deal for themselves. i totally understand a guy wanting to get the most out of his trade in but IN SOME CASES the store can't sell the thing for half of what a new one would cost. as far as the prices go, most people don't realize that Scheel's will price match any store, anywhere, period. bring in the price whether it's in a magazine or on a webpage and if it's not some goofy sale everything'll be cool. i have had "bad" experiences at all of the big chain hunting store whether it be Cabelas, Fin & Feather, Scheels, or Gander Mountain. Each have their good and bad points. instead of getting PO'd at the employees, who are only doing their job, get a manager out, that is the only way you're going to get the policies changed. i don't want to step on toes here but i just have to defend where i work is all.

I have had nothing but good experience with Scheels, but I have never done any gun business with them.

I usually only go there for a specific purpose and typically find what I am looking for. I just enjoy looking around. One thing for sure, if you have any questions you typically do not have to hunt for someone who cares.

Everyone can have a less than perfect experience in life, even with hunting buddies or a wife. Most of our toys don't have any real value , we just think they do.

I haven't done much business with Scheel's, but have been very happy with how I was treated both times. On my last trip, I went in to 'look' at muzzleloaders, as I had sold my CVA's, and needed something new. I found that they had the Knight disc rifle for $50 less than Cabelas, and I ended up buying one. The salespeople were attentive, friendly, and answered all my questions. I would go back again when I am in the area. I am price conscious, but equally as important, I want people who know what they're talking about, and can talk to me without making me feel little. I would recommend them to others.

Hey I was in Gander Mountain last week and asked the guy if they had a remington 338 ultra in an LSS model. He said "nope". I asked him if I could look at the model they had on display and he handed it over with out saying a word. I looked at it, handed it back and said thanks and he said "yep". Hell of a salesman. Those were the only 2 words he said. I prefer to do most of my business with small home town shops. They are not that much more and they OWN the business. To me thats worth something.

I bought a Win. 1300 from Waterloo Scheel's a few years ago. I'd had it for just over a year when the weld that holds the pump to the slides broke. They sent it to the factory and gave me a 1300 off their used rack to use in the meantime. That's why I go back.
