Response from Branstad....

Yeah, I know a lot of farmers that think one deer is to many... also if one deer wanders around their field ten times and leaves all kinds of tracks, it means there just must be hundreds of deer.... the biggest problem I saw in some of these "problem" counties, were the coon knocking the corn over and just wrecking a whole corn field. But yet the farmers think its deer, because they see a deer a lot easier than a coon... just my opinion

I am not here to defend either Branstad OR Culver, but the reality is that the Farm Bureau is a very powerful lobby, a wee bit more powerful than a batch of deer hunters. (Sarcasm alert.)

Fatboy, Daver,

I agree with FB being more organized then the hunters.

But as far as the dollars and what a well organized group of hunters could
do is staggering. We could do some damage if well organized.

I am going to get flamed for this but nothing is going to happen ever by us (hunters) whining about it or just talking about it.
We need to figure out a way to get all the hunters informed.

True. And we've got some organizations like Pheasants Forever, NWTF, IBA, IowaWhitetails Forever, etc. But the strongest seems to be the IBA. Have they spoken about this?

Its to bad that the hunters in all these organizations don't unify and make
one united front. I am sure Pheasants forever and someday even NWTF will need help in some way or another. We all need to work together. :way:

Kind of like the teachers union in Wisconsin. It's a well united front, but at the mercy of state regulations. With more states struggling to stay in the black; the almighty dollar wins every time. Brandstad wants to show Iowa he's the man to get it done. If the deer herd is sacrificed; so be it.

Today I watched the Drury's 8 part youtube meeting with the Iowa DNR. I'd suggest everyone watch the series. It is a delicate balance that the Iowa DNR is trying to obtain, many issues that are juggled here. Try to view it with an open mind, but I doubt many here can. I fear most are wanting to be waist deep in deer every hunting trip. If that is your desire, I suggest you buy lots of ground, put your money where your mouth is. Buying land is the sure way for you to have the control you so desperately desire.
Cheers. :drink2:

The FB and the insurance companies are more powerful and funded than us.
It is also a game of numbers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but less than 10% of Iowans hunt. That leaves lots of farmers/drivers out there whose voice will be heard, along with tons of others who could give a ratsarseless. If we live in a democracy, can we expect <10% to dictate policy? I think some people might be delusional on this topic.

That not the point of this at all. No One is complaining about the job the DNR is doing or has done.Quite the opposite.I love the job the DNR has been doing.I think they should be allowed to do the job they are educated and paid for..Not a politician
I wouldn't care if the DNR decided to do something I thought would be detrimental to my area.Thats for them to decide.Again...Not a politician!

Governor Branstad must have remembered my name from the last time he served as the governor of Iowa.

Neither he nor his office has sent me back a response to the emails I have sent to him.

I must have forgotten my own advice to never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
