RR Alfalfa Approved!

Sorry if this has already been covered. After several years of red tape, RR Alfalfa has been officially cleared. I believe it's being sold as I type this.

I think Dbltree has covered it in another thread. Also, it is restricted from being used in wildlife food plots by Monsanto.

Restricted sales to protect organic farming. I believe the contract list guidelines for mowing so that adjacent fields are not pollinated with RR genes.

How in the world are they going to regulate that??? My father-in-law is planting about 20 acres for hay and buying extra to plant some 1/4 acre plots with. His supplier said nothing about it, but since he's purchased alfalfa seed for years for hay, probably never crossed his supplier's mind. I guess he'll just have to hay his small plots to be legal, whatever the deer leave anyway...

I received an email from Fielders Choice today, promoting their 30R40 RR alfalfa. Funny thing is, I don't see it on their website.

Page 22... Planting Limitation: Genuity® Roundup Ready® Alfalfa is not permitted to be planted in any wildlife feed plots.

page 26... Planting Limitation: Genuity ® Roundup Ready® Sugarbeets are not permitted to be planted in any wildlife feed plots.

Page 21 ... "Genuity ® Roundup Ready® Alfalfa must be managed for high quality hay/forage production, including timely cutting to promote high forage quality (i.e. before 10% bloom) and to prevent seed development. In geographies where conventional alfalfa seed production is intermingled with forage production and the agronomic conditions (climate and water/irrigation availability) are such that forage alfalfa is allowed to stand and flower late in the season, Genuity ® Roundup Ready® Alfalfa must be harvested at or before 10% bloom to minimize potential pollen flow from Genuity ® Roundup Ready® Alfalfa to conventional alfalfa.
