It’s amazing how much much deer and bucks browse and/or rub pines . I planted a dozen in this spot and the only one that made it was protected with cage.

I have put a willow and pine next to each other the last two years. I put these out yesterday morning. Willow is getting hit first.

I use a synthetic forehead gland scent. Never spooked a deer and they check it out. Don't use anything else ever.

Was at the lake yesterday and noticed how soft young cottonwood can be. Made me think it would work as a post if you can't get willow, basswood, pine, or cedar. Anyone ever try that? Edited to add meaning as an early easy to beat up tree primarily. And also wanted to add they will probably be hitting them earlier this year with the colder weather.

I've used Popple,CottonWood,Cedar,Pine,Spruce.

Popple works great. I think that white color hellps.

Got 4 in today.
Normally I wait till Oct but I was bored this morning.
These are a hybrid popple/ cottonwood. Has a real pleasant odor,it's soft and has a nice white color under the bark.

Not sure if I've ever mentioned this before but if you don't want to dig a hole for them, wiring to an existing crap tree works great also.( One pic).
I wired it to a buckthorn tree.

and the only giant sunflower (rubbing post) that made it this year.
its right at 11" as of now. It will get hammered.

They are really starting to hit them. I haven't seen any beating up the big posts yet but have seen some mature bucks leaving scent and mauling the small trees.

I could be way wrong, but I think we're seeing tines from the other side. I can see him being an 8.
you should make a post about the bear. I'm guessing most us iowa guys are pretty ignorant about bear hunting.

Hill runner. 50/50 one that myself.
Have dissected that pic many times but just not sure.
Summer of 23, there was a beautiful 6x5 that showed up quite a bit.
Last Pic I got was last October 23rd.

As for the bear thing..,
It was a fairly easy hunt. I drove miles until I found the right cornfield next to a secluded water source.

I'd be happy to give my experience with bear if anyone wants to hear.
I " think" it's the 60th bear I've killed.
