Rut Action/Movement Reports

It was pretty good in the mornings and dead in the evenings. Had a 160 plus in a ravine with a doe on Saturday and they just didn't get close enough. Seems dead again now. hope to see things pick up by the weekend as they try to find one more.
I am seeing the same. Nights have been horrid (skunked sat, mon, tues - all evening sits). Next year going to focus on mornings more. I always thought the 17th, 18th, and 19th were pretty good but i think I'd move that back now to like 21st, 22nd, 23rd.

Took yesterday off and did an all day sit. Slow. One doe in the morning and then a couple does in the last hour of light. I did pass up this nice 8pt for the second time this year. I'm guessing he is 3. He passed by a 4pm cruising. He was checking one doe near me and then moved on passing by me at 10 yards. Hoped a fence and made a scrape, then went across a wide open picked bean field a couple hundred yards to a small island of trees out of sight.

Monday I had a mature 9 locked down with a doe. Had them both bedded within 30 yards, he walked off two bucks, and I couldn't get a shot. I was in the same general area yesterday and just saw two or three small bucks. Both days I sat until about 1:15.

Next week, especially Wednesday - Friday, should be good.

Past two mornings there have been buck/doe pairs out in the harvested corn field. Today was a 1.5 yr old buck, yesterdays was a 2.5 yr old with a right towering G2, might be somebody someday. Climb back in the stand tomorrow thru Nov 30.

Did not get a chance to check in much but I saw what most guys were posting, which was good movement from the 10th to the 12th. Never had bucks so receptive to rattling, it was crazy last week. They went nocturnal in our area when it heated up Thursday. Rattled in the #1 on the farm 2x last week and the 2nd time his luck ran out. He was the bully and I watched him kick a lot of tail this season. He was aggressive.

Cams lit back up Wednesday and it's looking like we've had good movement the last couple days.

Another duo this morning, headed to another property after an oil change.

Getting ready to turn into the drive at 8:30, had a doe with twin fawns cross the road. Couple hundred yards farther, buck crossed the road.

Walking in, had two does cross an open field, buck not far behind.

I’ve seen two does from stand so far.

No movement from 9 to 3:30. Pulled a SD card that was swapped Sunday and only movement was in the mornings.

Deer here are starting to move well again morning and evening.
Was horrible for a week or so.
From Nov 9th_ 19th, it was like they vanished.
Zero hunting pressure so it was not that factor.
My 1/2 acre pumpkin plot got Destroyed in that time period!. Lots of deer, just nighttime activity.
Got alot of bucks on my ground. They are out casually feeding with the does.

Things were crazy November 2nd and 3rd, lots of mid-day activity, as well as the 11th and 12th. As of November15th it's like they all vanished. Quite a few does are back with their yearlings.
Exactly what I've seen. I told a friend a couple days ago it's like all the deer up and went on vacation. Don't think I've ever seen a week at this time of November where the movement was so dead. Even at night! I'm hoping there will be at least a few days of a last gasp desperate push by some mature bucks to find those last few hot does leading up to Thanksgiving next week, as usually seems to happen, but as of right now I'm a little less than optimistic given what I'm seeing (or not seeing) the last few days I've been out, and what my cameras are showing. In southern Iowa. Talked to a friend in northern Missouri yesterday and he said he's seeing the same down there.

I also did not really see an influx of "wandering stranger" bucks during the rut this year, bucks I wasn't familiar with. Usually I see at least a couple mature bucks that come in during November and hang around anywhere from 7-14 days then are gone and I never see them again. Haven't seen that this year. Strange.

Crazy 2.5 hours as the sun came up, but nothing over 2.5 years old. Saw almost 30 deer, then it went DEAD.

Had two FAT coons walk under me and when they were at the base of my tree I said out loud "Well aren't you a couple of fatsos." They acted like I wasn't even there.

My stand is directly over a creek bed that isn't running at the moment. A while later a coyote comes running at a pretty good clip right down the creek bed. Not a full out sprint, but not a trot either. Blew by so fast wasn't any time to do anything. Wasn't long and a string of 6 more, staggered as flankers, pushed the creek bank. One came unglued with he hit the base of my tree, spun around and took the others with him. I've seen this behavior before; the lead dog flushes things that they hope curl around right into the other incoming coyotes. No shortage of song dogs here, when the sun sets you hear multiple different groups sound off all around.

Almost makes me want to dye the traps and start a line.

Crawled in a stand in another county an hour before sunrise today. I was hoping for maybe a more mature buck than the ones I saw yesterday. 9:30 was the only deer sighted, a 1.5 year old buck.

Heading home at 11 am, a 2.5 year old tall 8 pt runs across the blacktop in front of me...
