Rut Pattern?

Do you think a buck will have any type of pattern during the rut, at least as far as what areas he remains in or areas he checks for hot does and when? One year we had a buck that would cruise along the same general path across his farm every 3-4 days. Also, a couple years ago, I remember a buck that I would only get pics of or have sightings of during the last half of each week. Wasn't sure if this was coincidence, or if that was part of his pattern. Thoughts?

I think it depends on the buck and the year. 2010 I had a buck that literally wore a trail through a corn field on his daily circuit. Too predictable, he was killed across the road.

This year, with does scattered all around in standing corn, I wouldn't count on any patterns of travel developing in my area. Pretty much need to hunt the does and hope the bucks are doing the same.

Can't provide any insight here but will be interesting to hear what the experienced hunters have to say....we have had a nice buck check the downwind side of a known bedding area twice in the last week but we couldn't get a shot. He was not there that we know of this summer or last and it is a small farm of only 60 acres so kind of easy to keep tabs on which deer are residents. Hope he checks it again tomorrow morning because we have fine tuned the stand and I will be in it.

I have 4 different bucks that are almost like clockwork on my cameras- I think the only reason they are like this is because there are 6 Does in my area that are in front of my cameras regularly and the bucks follow. If you can pattern your does in the area- the bucks are right there to follow. May not be the same bucks in the pattern, but there will be bucks in general following the ladies around.

I have the exact situation on a buck I call "The Great 8" he comes in on trail camera every 3-4 days during daylight hours. I don't know if he is checking general areas for does or what but the main hit lister I call "Snickers" was killed by my grandpa opening morning of KY rifle season at 7:00 A.M. he was chasing does unlike "The Great 8" he just walked the edge of the woods and never once acknowledged a doe or other deer.
