Rut???????

How much longer will rut still be strong???? about when can you usaully tell its starting to slow down a little

Should be good for another 7 to 10 days. Deer are moving hard at night this week so that is hurting during hunting hours.

I think it is just starting and I usually see it proceed until the third week of November and then the hunting remains good because there is always a doe coming into heat between now and December. Post-rut can be some great hunting too.

It was pretty cool we had 3 bucks growling behind us on Sun. night! We are seeing a few small bucks in the morning but not much during the day. Hopefully the daytime activity will go up.

I'm seeing younger bucks moving pretty good and just starting to see the mature bucks moving more before dark and after sunrise. Got a nice 11 pt i hope to get this weekend with my bow since I have never got a nice buck with my bow yet. I have had to pass on him once since he was quartering to me and I feel that is not a good shot to take since i might hit shoulder and not have a good blood trail. I sure hope just waiting for the ethical shot pays off and I can get him before shotgun becuase it would mean more to take him with the bow than my gun. But I won't hesitate to take him with the gun.

I shot a doe early.. first thing on Saturday and it dropped 60 yards away in a nice cover thicket so I decided to ride it out..

About an hour later after watching several decent shooters in a grass field to my west, a nice 10 came to my grunts and calls..

He spent 15 minutes trying to find that doe that was around earlier...

I chose to shoot him because he was a near perfectly symentrical. And if you have a nice 125 in range for a long time and don't shoot it, you anger the deer gods..

Anyway.. I brought him in to get mounted and his neck was MUCH bigger than all the other deer already at the shop.. They had larger racks, mine was full rut strut.
