Saturday Morning Hunt

Well gentlemen I went out this morning and had a pretty thrilling hunt. I was sitting in my stand when I noticed a outline of antlers bedded down 60 yards from me. I took a long look at it and after about 5 minutes the buck finally moved and it was what I thought it was. After looking at it for awhile I thought it was this 8 pointer that I have trail cam pictures off. To make a long story short, it was chasing a doe and I would of had a tough 30 yard shot at it but it was not the buck I thought it was, and it would of only scored 120ish, and was about 2 and a half years old.

I couldn't hunt this weekend. Had to watch my youngest son. I saw Iowa lose a game they shouldn't have, but on the up side, we went to the new Bass Pro Shop in Broken Arrow. VERY nice store. Think I will spend some time there in the future.

Well, you did better than me. I sat 4 hours in the AM and 3 hours in the PM and only laid eyes on 1 doe and a half rack 8 point. Slow, slow, slow. Somebody crank up the rut already!!!

CamoKid and I had a pretty interesting evening hunt tonight. He was in a treestand about 80 yards west of the ground blind (actually, a hollowed out logjam on the field edge) that I was in. I was watching an alfalfa field where we have seen and 'encountered' 8-10 different bucks in 4 outings. I lowered my head for a few seconds, and when I looked back up, there was a 140-150 class 10 pointer standing 10 yards in front of me. I couldn't even reach for my bow. He came in fast and hard, and after a few seconds, he headed off to my left. I grunted, hoping he would return, or stop in front of Taylor's stand. He stopped on the field edge, then ducked in the woods. About 10 seconds later I heard a loud 'BOOM' not very far away. Turns out a neighbor was muzzleloader hunting, and he missed that buck at 20 yards. I ran into a bowhunter(brother of the muzzleloader guy), and he implied that I could probably hunt their adjacent ground, since they don't hunt it much. I'll be verifying that one this week! I went back to my blind, and saw a few does, then we headed out. The season just keeps getting more and more fun.
