Scent question

Hi, I was just wondering if I could use any scent free detergent to wash my clothing with OR does it have to be a certain brand/contain certain ingredients?

I was just thinking of going to walmart or some other local store to purchase some generic scent-free detergent(a non-hunting company).

I wouldnt do that if I were you. Most name brand detergents have uv brighteners. Id stick to a hunting scent killer detergent, personally.

I use ALL free and clear. It may have UV brighteners but doesn't bother me much. I never have an issue getting spotted unless I play the game of Fat Man in Tiny Tree.

That is to funny! Thanks guys... Also SE, You don't do that in November do you?

Go to the sporting goods section at walmart. They have a sports wash that is scent free with the non uv crap in it. I've used it for a couple years now.

Alright, I have another question.

What do you guys use to keep your clothing in after it's done washing/drying?

Do you guys use certain type of plastic bags? a plastic container? What?

I buy Zip Lock brand XXL zip lock bags. I can get a few sets of cloths in one bag, and coat/jacket and bibs in another. I usually throw a scent away dryer sheet in as well and store them in rubber maid tubs. Has worked for me thus far. I change at the truck and spray down, Play the wind as much as possible, but where I hunt I can always end up with something down wind. I haven'e been busted as much since using this method.

Thanks. Do you have to use dryer sheets in the tub or can you just use the plastic tubs by themselves?

Do you change the clothes underneath your coat/bibs/coveralls aswell when at the truck? OR do you wear them already and just put the coveralls/bibs over it?

I put a dryer sheet in the bag and seal the bag. Nothing else in the tub. Yes, I change all of my cloths. early season you may not be wearing a coat or jacket, just pants and t-shirt. I almost always shower before afternoon hunts also. If I cannot I use field wipes.

I am sure you will get other opinions, and some may say what I do is wrong, or doesn't work, seems to be the norm anymore, I am just explaining what I do, and it seems to work fine for me.
Good luck.

Ok. Do you have to use a dryer sheet? OR can I just store the clothing in the zip block by itself?

deer addict, can you use a zip block bag more than once? OR do I have to use a new bag everytime I go hunting?

Don't know if it does any good or not but I pick up 6-8 apples off my yard and squash them a bit before putting them in the same trash bag as my hunting clothes. I figure smelling like apples is better than armpits...

I take the clothing part a step further by keeping a plastic tub of socks, underwear, thermals, shirts, pants, bath towels, etc in my closet. I wash it all in scent free detergent and keep in the tub for hunting season.

I wash my clothes only once and that is generally in September and then I just keep them in a plastic tub with leaves and sticks and stuff when I'm not wearing them. I'll wash my base layers and socks usually after every couple of hunts because they can get pretty stinky but as for the rest, it doesn't get washed unless I fall in a mud puddle or cow pie or something.

I was going to say it probably gets alittle to cold in November to be hangin clothes out.

Anyways, SE, Do you wash shirts and pants that you wear underneath your outer layers too or just your camo coats, coveralls, facemasks, gloves etc...?

If you guys wana take it a step further they also sell scent safe clothing and boot bags. I know scentaway by hunters specialties works very well. I know scent blocker, scent lok and a few other companies sell similar products. They cost a little more than a plastic bag but I throw scent away earth wafers in with my non scent proof clothing and they come out smelling like dirt. Plastic bags are better than nothing but you can smell a stinky garbage bag when it's sitting outside, if scent is getting out that means scent is getting in as well. Hope that helps put a few more options on the table.
