So I've never tried any types of scents before. Thinking about trying it for the first time. My vacation starts tomorrow. I haven't a clue on this subject. Would you fellas lend me some advice or pointers? Anything will help sense I've never done it. Tinks new magnetics? How, where, when? Help me.... haha

i sware by the *buck bomb* you can buy it at walmart.

Ha, I remember you asking me about them. The buck bomb is real good I usually just use for spraying my boots and if there is a strong wind I spray the thing in the air and i think the wind will carry it a lot farther than regular sent.

You can set the can up downwind of your stand 20 or 30 yards and lock the trigger for a continuously spray or just do little sprays without locking the trigger. The doe in estrous can will be prime right around now.

friday night, i was sitting in the stand and seen a really nice buck,,one i shot walking about a 100 yards to my south down wind. he would not respond to a grunt or anything. So i gave two very short sprays of that buck bomb in the air from the stand and he made a 180 and came right to me. never tried spraying the bottom of my boots but i can see how that would work.

not a whole of experience with it but from the one time I did use it it worked very well. good luck

Well I just picked myself up a can to try. I also was looking at tinks new magnetics lure. Anyone know anything about it? Or tried it

I can attest positively with this morning's slow hunt that left over estrus urine by Hunters' Specialties is a cover scent and nothing more.

Sat this morning till 9AM. 1 small 6 at 8AM crossed my path, followed it the wrong way for 10', then veered off into fresh combined corn and ate for 10 minutes. Didn't look like he even had a clue the rut should be on. But the estrus urine from last year clearly didn't fire him up at all.

Just thought I'd post that for the guys who wonder if it will keep till next year. I always wondered, today I got my answer. That said, my bro said he has fresh Tinks 69 that got ignored yesterday too.

It's hit and miss in my experience. Some years I've tried all the above with similar result and then other years It seems to have an opposite effect (where it almost seems to scare bucks off). So I guess I say use them sparingly. Too much and I think smart bucks seem to think somethings not right.

I've been trying estrus scents & musks, even some VS1. And I found out that it doesn't matter what you use if there aren't any deer around to smell it.

I have been bowhunting since 1978!!!!! Yea!! I know big deal!!!!!!! No Problem!! :way: I have used a few scents!! None will work all the time! 100% doe scent........whats a female rabbit called??????????? Nuff said!! When the boys are ready.. they will pull them in! 99% of the time, your pouring money on the ground!!!!!!!! And I will argue that with anyone!!!!!!!!!!

So much punctuation!

I use tink products regularly with decent results. I did fall for a gimmic last year and bought a couple cans of A-Ways scent string. Waste of money IMO and made more of a mess than I cares to deal with.

I've never had much luck with doe estrous scents and i use them every year. Not anymore. I'm not wasting my money on it anymore.

I'll give my 2 cents since it sounds like not many individuals have had luck with them or say they are a waste of money. I have used Code Red Doe in Estrous on two different hunts this year-November 4th and 6th. On both occasions I used a hunters specialties drag tied onto my boot with the Code Red Doe in Estrous applied to it. On both days I had multiple bucks take the same route I used to get to my stand (nose to the ground) and give me shot opportunities. If using, be sure to walk past your stand or to the areas where you would like to get a shot. I walk a circle or figure eight around my stand. I usually hang the drag according to the wind on a branch low to the ground. Using scents can be difficult as you want the scent to travel to where you think the deer are, but you must be careful with your own scent as it will also be blowing the same direction. Best of luck to everyone!

IMO, the tinks or code red or hunters specialty stuff isn't nearly as effective as the local stuff. I use Mrs. Doe Pees and swear by it. It's so much stronger smelling than the other stuff. The other stuff is diluted, boiled and bottled. Whenever a buck gets down wind of it, they come right in on a string. I always hang it upwind of a shooting lane.

What people need to realize is that scent isn't going to pull in deer every time you put it out, in fact I would go so far as to say that it probably doesn't more times than it does. IMHO it is still worth trying because even if it only works once and brings you in a monster buck, all that money will have been worth it. It's the same thing with calls, they don't work all the time but when they do it is very exciting and worth the money invested in them. I have used quite a few scents and the one that has stood out to me most is buck bomb. I haven't used the estrus yet but have used the regular doe urine before and it works to bring in both bucks and does, and gets them to stop in a spot for a few moments. When I'm walking to my stand I just spray it on bushes and grass and saplings every few feet and then spray a small puddle of it on the ground 20 yards from my stand. Has worked very well for me this year.
