scoutguard remote problem

well it took me less than 2 wks to lose the remote for the 1st scoutguard 550 I bought. I decided to just buy another 550 since I figured I would have to buy the remote anyway. The remote on the 2nd camera won't replay the pics on the camera it came with. Whats worse is that I tried it on the original camera this morning and nothing shows up on the screen at all. Not being able to view pics in field I can deal with, but now I can't even change the settings on the thing. Does anyone know if these remotes are camera specific or should I be able to use the same remote for more than one camera? So far I like the cameras but hate having to use these remotes, probably would have looked for a different camera had I known about the remotes.

I have two Scoutguards and one DLC Assassin. There are two different Scoutguards.. One is a Scoutguard 550 and the other is a Scoutguard 550V.. I'm guessing the first camera you bought is a 550V because that is the one that you can look at the pics with the remote. The 550 has the same remote, but, you can't look at the pics, so I bet you just bought the standard 550 the second time around. It's like a $20 price difference with that option.
Both of my Scoutguards are the 550V, but I don't use the remote for looking at the pics anyway because they are so small you can hardly tell what they are and it takes forever to scroll through them, and it beeps loud. Although the remotes look the exact same, I haven't tried the DLC remote in one of my Scoutguards yet to see how it works. Between my two Scoutguards, I can use one remote for both, but, that's because they are both the same model number. Another thing you have to watch out for that makes these cameras operate really crappy, is the brand of SD card you use. For some reason, they wont work at all and wont power up the remote or anything with some of the SD cards. The only two brands I have had luck with so far are SanDisk and Kingston or something like that. The ones that Scheels sells, MAXFlash, don't work at all, neither do PNY OPTIMA from Wal-mart.

older version SG remotes dont even fit the new models portal....found out the hard way.

Bushnell's new cam that is similar size takes great video too and is much easier to operate when viewing on the big screen. I like them both, but cant stand the SG remote....both take similar footage from my limited experience.

Ok now I'm real confused, I just checked and my order says 550 but the cameras say 530v. Is this the same cam?

As long as they both have the "v", then they are both cameras that you should be able to view the pics with the remote, I wouldn't pay much attention to the invoice, rather, just go by what the camera actually says on it. SG-550V and DTC-530V are the same thing I believe. I think a different company bought Scoutguard or something and changed that number. If you notice, the pics will have a different company name on the lower left when you look at them with your computer. Sounds like you may have a different problem. Talk to Greywolf on here. He sells them and should know more about them.

What brand and size of SD card are you using?

I have the 2gb kingston cards that came with the cams. I also tried a maxflash card after reading your other post and it seemed to take pics fine. the cam I have here which is my original is a 530v. The other cam is in the woods and the box doesn't specify. It may be correct that my other cam doesn't have a v in it. If that is correct, should the remote say "replay mode" when I plug it in and hit ok? I guess that's why I thought it wasn't working correctly since it said replay mode but wasn't showing any picture. Thanks a ton for the info!

Im surprised that Maxflash worked for you.. I tried 4 of the them. Two 2GB and two 1GB to no avail. Hmm.. Im not sure about the replay mode.. The only thing I would be able to see if it says that is if I check it with my DLC, because that's the only one I have that doesn't have replay mode.. Another thing, the remote to my DLC lights up with a blue light rather than just the plain black screen and has black lettering instead of white.. Does your second SG light up like that?

Yea, the 2nd one lights up blue. Not positive on the 1st one . I emailed the company I bought it from, hopefully get some answers, and maybe a new remote or two soon.
